    This bushing at the rear of the transmission has been soaking in trans oil for so long that it's now softer than a gummy bear. I'd replace it but I can't seem to find a part #. Any ideas?

    Bushing is #105634.
    Pain to remove and install as it needs to be pressed out and pushed in.

    Cut it out with hack saw or similar and then you can clean it up and press in the new one. It was on my winter list about 3 years ago.

    Does your tranny leak? I have fought leaky pans for 2+ years and finally think I have it licked. If that is a general issue, let's start a new thread.

    I cleaned the underside last weekend and will try to track leaks over the next few hundred miles. Sure looks good, for now...

    I did this job today and a few notes. Chiseling or hacksawing the bushing out wasnt something I was going to try. I made up a tool using a combination of long bolts, large 32mm & 46mm sockets and some thick washers that allowed me to push the old bushing out and draw the new one in. I tossed the bushing into the freezer before installing although I'm not sure if it makes a difference.
    The bushing is 42mm OD so you need to find sockets with a slightly smaller (41) OD and one that has an ID that will grip only the metal shell of the bushing.
    The transmission case is chamfered on one side so be sure to start the new bushing on that side. The new bushing had almost no chamfer to the ends so I filed one side a bit to ease installation. It pressed right back in without much drama.

    Thanks for sharing. This is on my list although winter doesn't much matter around here. July/August would probably be a better time considering when the car gets used!

    I agree, a photo of your improvised tool would be great too.

    I'm pretty careful about cutting bushings out; you only have to go far enough for metal to get weak and it will push out. Looking at your housing it looks like someone was not so kind in the past. I did install same as you but without the chamfer; I did not notice chamfer on one side of housing, maybe I guessed right. Pick the right socket and bolts and in it goes!

    I'm not in the shop tonight and the tool (2 large sockets, a long bolt and some washers) is back in two different drawers. Here are pics of what I copied: this tool fits the 308/328 bushing which is just a few mm different.

    What's the quote to replace the chain and tensioner?

    The 4 engine and trans mounts support the driveline. There's a steel rod that is rubber mounted to the frame and through this bushing to keep the driveline from moving longitudinally. While mine was soft and oil logged once I cut it apart I realized that there's very little rubber in the bushing and the center portion was pretty solid. I doubt that one could ever feel the difference with a new bushing.
