Hello fellow f chatters I just want to warn others about my recent troubles in relation to a pump motor that I purchased recently. Basically I contacted the seller who I believe is a regular on here and who had advertised on e bay that they had 355 f1 pump motors in a very limited supply. The sale had ended on e bay but I thought I would contact him anyway to see if they could help. He informed me he could get me one for $1000 and I thought BINGO !. I had considered doing the 360 pump upgrade but hey why bother when this bloke has what was described by him on e bay as a brand new pump motor! Anyway I done the deal and the motor arrived so first thing I noticed was the shaft had been modified with what seemed to be an angle grinder. I thought hmmm not fantastic but let's fit to the car and see what happens. Install was simple only took about thirty minutes, turned on the ignition and what a bummer the motor ran approx one third slower than my original! So I contacted the seller who whilst being polite was un willing offer a return. I have contacted pay pal in the hope that I can get a refund and obviously the seller is not happy but I cannot afford to lose a thousand bucks. I don't know how this will end up but I thought I would ask on here if anyone has 1 purchased one of these motors and had any problems? 2 does anyone know what exactly this particular motor was designed for? 3 the correct rpm that the f1 pump motor for the 355 is supposed to spin at ? I have attached a couple of pics of the motor I purchased . Image Unavailable, Please Login
Probably a $20 motor he is selling for $1k. Then again I guess that's the case with any Ferrari part. Sorry it didn't work for you.
Apparently it's brand new. The seller stated it was brand new and that he modified the shaft and stated that that it's the same motor as the 355 motor with a different shaft configuration so he cuts the shaft to suit. It was advertised as a 355 motor on e bay. You can see from the second pic where he has cut into the shaft and also damaged the bearing surrounding the shaft. When I complained to him and reported it to pay pal he suggested I should leave car repairs to the professionals! All I can say to that is people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones!!!
Steve I will tell you what he did here.It looks like he tried to rebuild the org motor by replacing the amature from another motor.thats why he had to grind in the slot.you may have a clearance problem looks like very poor workmanship.Remove the motor and see how it spins with power.
No clearance problems whatsoever . The motor fits ok,I did remove it and test it spins approx one third slower than my old motor. This is what I'm pissed off at how can someone advertise a motor on e bay as new oem from the original manufacturer. Advertise it as being for the ferrari 355,send me something that looks the same but is obviously for something else as they had to modify it an finally get pissed at me for complaining !! As I stated to the seller in an e mail. Had I been properly informed of what I was getting I could have taken a gamble and purchased or declined. This site has been brilliant for help with problems and I know there is heaps of interchangeable parts available out there but I feel that people who are not upfront and honest have no right trading on sites such as e bay and information supplied on sites such as this by them should be treated with caution!
O/k i was meaning shaft clearance, but if you say it spins way slower. then you do have a problem.Like i said the motor looks org its just the armature/shaft that looks like its not. You can always try to rebuild your org motor or do a 360 update, not very hard at all to do yourself. Good luck
I will consider both options in the future but for now I will leave my old motor on the car. I paid for this through pay pal and have reported the problem to them. They have contacted the seller and are investigating. Has anyone else been in a similar situation and manage to get their money back. This is the first time I've had a problem like this.
Hey Steve, sorry to hear this situation. I had a similar issue about 1 year ago on eBay, auto part related. You should be able to go to the resolution center and start an investigation. I think you have enough information and pictures for them to rule on your side. BTW, first time poster on the forum, I have been reading up and taking in all the great information and hope to buy a 355 in the next year.
Which seller is this? I contemplated buying one on ebay for $1500 I think it was Ferrariparts in CA? THank you
I do not want to name them personally but sells pump motors for 360,430 Lamborghini ,Maserati ,relays etc etc on e bay. Have a look I'm sure you can figure it out from there !
Why don't you guys do the 360 pump upgrade? Steve, I thought I had messaged you about being able to set you up for less than $300 for this...
No kidding. The ease of the 360 pump swap and the security it provides is a logical move. Thanks to dantm and other forum members the pumps can be had for $500 or less. The conversion kit is available from some folks here and Ricambi as well. Once you do the swap we can all argue on whether / how to bleed the system But your car will be running
Yes I got your message re the 360 pump but as stated the seller of the motor said it was a genuine oem motor which is a straightforward 30 minute swap over. This would have left me with my old motor as a spare which I would have refurbished.
Fantastic car!! A lot of negativity surrounds them re maintenance etc. my first f car and had considered a 360 but so glad I went with my heart and stuck with the 355!
Yes you can buy the 360 pump motor for $300.00. but you also still need to buy the hill pump retrofit kit to make it all work part# pab355f1 which costs $450.00 plus some fittings. its not just the 360 pump motor that you need.
Ricambi is a sponsor so I guess it's OK to post this here. PAB355F1-C F355 F1 Pump Combo : Ricambi America I have this on my 355. From what I hear it's not an easy installation process. I had mine professionally done and am happy with it.
In some ways this seems like a good idea, however, I'd rather keep my car more original, where possible.
I'm wondering why the "L Bracket" does not come with the kit? Seems strange to buy a kit and then need to make parts to install it..
I don't know many details about how to install it but my shop had some stainless steel braided hoses custom made for the installation.
