A decent dose of tailwind? Conversely, I recently saw 39 kts GS over here in a decent dose of headwind at 2,000ft.

Always nice to get a push. Fun to keep a personal best speed. I was hoping to beat mine this winter, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen.

Lou- That is really humming when you get in the jetstream like that. What is your best?

F-T- That is really quick for a 172 and equates to 198 mph GS. Lou's was 807 mph, which speeds up a trip quite a bit. 1 nm=6076.1', 1 mi=5280'

My best was 752 kts. That was in a 400 off the coast of Japan a few years back. The wind was 213 kts and right off the tail. The indicated Mach was around .90. I've seen higher wind speeds, but never had them right off the tail.

The coast of Japan seems to be one of the best places for strong jets.

Here I am returning from Chicago with a tailwind last week. Not bad for a single engine prop. Not sure why it is sideways. 342 kt GS, 80 kt tail.

Another sideways pic...in a climb over Cleveland, I was just out of FL210 at 198 kts, but my GS was only 55 kts due to the 143 kt headwind. Just for fun, I asked ATC for a "speed check". The controller replied that they were just talking among themselves that I was getting passed by truck traffic on the Ohio Turnpike...

198 KTAS is humming. That is faster than most WW-II fighters cruised.

I cruise at TAS 265 kts. The 198 kts was in a climb. But it is all relative. I was complaining to a buddy of mine that the Meridian is so slow and I was searching for a Mustang or an Eclipse. He is a corporate pilot...he said he was coming home from San Francisco to Youngstown in their Falcon 900 at 500 kts+, and he and the other pilot were groaning about how slow it was :)
