One more sticky parts thread. My Spider turns 20 this year and so i decided to fix the sticky parts. they looked and feeled really awful. Mechanicals, paint and leather are in good condition. i own the car for 14 years now and have done around 45.000 kms. yesterday i removed the sticky parts of the center console. it was an easy job of only half an hour. now they will go to the paint shop. Good luck! This has always been a problem when detailing some of the older Ferrari's. My client's 360 and SuperAmerica all suffer from this.
Mr muscle oven cleaner works a treat! Spray on and leave for 15 minutes or so then hose off with water.

I understand that . My question is what did you use for a finishing paint to get it that smooth Auto correct killed me. I didn't see what I posted in brackets, it was supposed to read "the finish not the gunk removal"
Hi John I don't know what wipe new is but all I did with my parts is give them a coat of plastic bumper dressing and they look just fine!
I've just done my windscreen vents and the steering column surround using plastic bumper paint and they've come out fine -in fact I did all my plastics with it. Holy cow you mean it's just a plastic dressing like Amorall? I knew it! Wipe New is a recent product sold on TV that is a high level plastic restorer and resistant to rinsing and washing. might be a micro molecule version of the usual silicon types. Your result is very cool because it capitalizes on the pigment already I the plastic and doesn't rely on another layer which could get scratched off. Good Job! I want to do my vents and other parts. Interior is ok and almost mint but the 20 years still took their toll. Only 3K miles on this car!
is the steering column easy to remove? how about the door handles? do they come off with the one screw in the middle or do you have to remove the door panel?
Steering column is easy - about 6 screws underneath. (different lengths though, so keep them in order) Door handles - sadly, yes, not so much for the metal part of the handle but you need to slacken the leather part to get the metal part past it.
When I saw "Wipe New" I thought about those cheesy commercials promising the world. The first word that came to mind was "sucka", but looking up evaluations on YouTube it seems to garner good reviews, so I stand corrected... Presuming that the Wipe New folks didn't engineer the YouTube videos as clever propaganda.
Michael - you have to unscrew the binnacle as well to get the top half of the steering surround free. I recently repainted the steering column shroud, windscreen heater vents plus reglued the leather near the binnscle. Take a look at links in post #12 above
Very easy to remove. Six screws on the bottom. Though, to remove the top half, make sure the steering is at it's lowest position and the adjustment lever is completely in open position. As for the door handles, it is as easy as it looks.
