Need some advice to identify color code for mid-blue interior on my '86 328. Have suffered a seam split in the driver's cushion. Local trim shop , used by the F-M dealer and other dealers, advises that it can't be repaired as it's too dry (although there was no general cracking) and needs to be replaced. Not sure if they would use a kit or do it as custom work - need to determine that obviously. You recommendations welcomed. I've searched this forum and the web. Were Connolly hides used, or some other? I don't have a copy of the original window sticker and the interior color is not noted in the service books. The color chips I've found for Connolly, don't have anything close. It's possible the leather has faded, but seats, doors and console are even, if they've faded. Don't think they've been re-dyed. I've attached a photo, but with camera color variations and lighting, it's at best a guide - a mid-blue, not gray-blue. Thanks guys!

Take the ashtray or one of the bezels out on the console and you will see the original color. Lost

Thanks Lost - I'll do that. I hadn't thought of it. I'm not the "sharpest knife in the drawer" when it comes to cars. Cheers. Jon

You can request samples and pricing from the following vendors. If your leather is original you won't need a color code. Just tell them 86 328 w/blue Connolly. They will send you swatches with color code of the blues available from Connolly for your car.

    Bill Hirsch Auto
    Global Upholstery
    World Upholstery
    GAHH

There are others, but these should be more than enough. For a whole hide (45-55SF) they will start at around $7.25/SF. For a half or quarter hide, the price/SF will be higher.

my interior is the same color.
i sent a swatch from under the drivers seat to leatherique and they matched it perfectly.
bought a whole hide off ebay that was taupe and dyed the section the uphostler cut out for the recover.
getting ready to do the passenger seat soon.

Thank you. I'll check their websites and contact them re: kits or hides.

Interesting. Hadn't thought of buying a different color and redye-ing it. Perhaps that is what the trim shop with whom I've spoken wold do. Do you remember what Leatherique's color code was?

I intend to use a professional and reputable shop to handle the work. But I like to know what might be involved and be an informed consume to the extent that I can.

    Jon,

To answer your question: I am pretty sure, but this has to be rechecked, that the code for this Blue leather in the Connolly range was VM3282 during the 328 period.
This is only to answer your exact question, as of course leather color change with age, especially in convertibles.

To match new hides to the existing leather color on doors and console is difficult, but it can be done; whereas the original "true" (more or less) color of the hide can be found as suggested above, or even by cutting a part of the slack in the seat hides where the hides are folded under the seat itself.

Thank you very much Nerofer. I wanted to identify the original code as a starting point, recognizing that there might be fading or color changes over the 28 years of the car's life.

I always enjoy reading your informative posts.

But it worth cross-checking nevertheles that it is indeed 3282...
According to Bluemel, there were only six or seven leather colors available, but you find actually more than this number in the cars themselves, even if the bulk of the cars got the six main colors.
But either by special order, or by using other colors meant for the other cars of the F. range, there are actually more leather colors to be seen:
I know for instance of a Red 328 GTS with dark blue navy hides (could be VM3209??) sold in Holland; there are a few number of cars which have dark brown seats, probably "Testa di Moro VM890" or an equivalent, etc...
Some samples of 3282 gives it a rather darker hue than the one you have, so be careful. There was also a very blue azure called Nunola VM3015...
My guess would be VM3282, but it is worth cross-checking.

I get my leather hides from Douglass Interior Products, near Seattle, WA (Bellevue). Their number is 800 722 7272. Their hides are vat-dyed; and those I've used have held up well for over 20 years. What they don't have, they can probably match, if they have a sample. If you ask they can send samples, of course. However before giving up on your original upholstery ask them about products for rejuvenating (softening up) the original leather, so it may be workable again. Worth asking about. If you have new covers made, consider asking your upholsterer to incorporate good backing fabric to take the strain off the leather at its seams, so you won't have a repeat performance. That's the kind of difference between ordinary and real quality work. If at all possible, using vat dyed is better, IMO.

Thanks again Nerofer. The only samples of VM2382 are quite dark blue. I've not been able to find a sample of VM3015. Spent some time today with well-regarded an auto upholster comparing samples. A few were close, but not quite the same even accounting for fading and comparing to unfaded areas. There is an F-Chat post showing a similar color on a Daytona Spider, but no information on the color code. The shop will obtain some other samples and we'll take it from there.

Thank you Rich. Good advice. And Seattle is close.

Thank you again to all who replied and assisted. Nerofer was correct: the color is Nuvola 3015. The local dealership was kind enough to obtain this information from Ferrari's database. Jon
