Michael, those calipers look amazing! I had PMB do my Porsche calipers years ago. The do some great work. Nice to see that you're having Louis Meza do your interior. Can't wait to see the car finished.
Louis is doing the interior for the red car (12557). The interior for 12562 is too nice and original to re-do.
Are you also having the dash redone? It took me several orders from different vendors in Europe to get the "right" leather for my dash. I spent 2 months last year working on my dash. Well worth it if you have the patience.
From what others here have told me that quite a few binnacles have warped due to the stress the leather put on them. If you're getting your dash redone make sure you get a good look at the bottom to make sure there's no stress cracks. It would totally suck if you paid to have the leather re done on your dash only to have the binnacle warp due to the tighter leather months down the road. My dash was in very good condition but that dip in the middle just drove me nuts. I got quoted get this $6,000 to do the dash. I did it myself for less than half of the quoted price. I can assure you the shop would have never put real copper rivets back on or paid attention to the original stitching detail. Also, before I forget make sure they use the correct foam. What are the alternatives of sourcing suspension components for the Countach? I know the factory is prohibitively expensive but are there any other sources?
The castor joints are almost the same as the Alfa 105 series cars, however the threaded section is M18 on the Alfa parts and so they need to be re-cut to M14. Easy on a lathe with an adaptor jig as you can then ensure no relative rotation between the housing and the shaft. I have the parts drawn up on CAD to do this but at the moment have no need for new parts. Heim Joints again plenty of motorsport options but they will need spacers and I would suggest using rubber boots to protect the joints. This is what I will be doing to mine once my car is back.
The dash on the white car is PERFECT. I only removed it to protect it from the "dirty work" that is being carried out all around it. It takes <1 hour to remove.
Hi Michael, How did they refinish the carburetor bodies? I called Pierce and they said they powdercoat them, but that doesn't sound correct, so do you know what finish was used on the bodies? I'm trying to refinish some myself and don't know which way to go yet. Thanks, Victor
