A person can get tired of all the 2v injected hating. Bet if we lined up went 10 miles there wouldn't be a 20ft difference. Personally i drove the carb cars and QV yet preferred the 2v as the best feel.

Built in January of '82, here's 40487 with a tad over 40k miles, affectionately known as Gianna. Like many here, I picked the GTSi for reliability and ease of maintenance because I have other things that are already faster.

I love the 2vi cars more than all of them. They were the first I ever saw as a kid and the impression never left me. I own a QV because it is a little "better", if you will, but not from a performance standpoint. I was within an eyelash of buying an 82 when I got my 84. I split the difference - I have turned my 84 into the look of an 81-82. Half way there, all I need to do now is swap hoods ( I have a non vented one) but I want to make sure my new aluminum radiator is going to do it's job. So far so good.

You are correct too. If we went to stop light to stop light, I couldn't beat you. I wouldn't pull away until about 80-100 mph but who gives a ****? You like what you like. If you want a fast car, buy a Corvette. If you want a 308, buy a 308.

There's a lot of threads here which have discussed this topic.

So as not to derail this thread, it's been close to 10 years ago that I powdercoated my 14" magnesium wheels, and they still look good (even though they are now in storage since they do not clear my front Big Brake kit).

Go to the X1/9 section of my website for more info on refinishing some old magnesium wheels.

    Thanks - DM

Thanks Mark. To be fair, Gianna is solidly in the 'driver' category, there are many nicer cars. The fact that she's not perfect, however, allow me to enjoy more and worry less.

And thanks, BTW, for the Niki Lauda article. I just enjoyed Rush a few weeks ago, so it was nice to see a connection between our passion and his.

I hear you. 308s don't take bad pics. I think it was the way yours was parked and the unique color...kind of looked like a fighter jet sitting there. Great picture! I'll look you up next time I'm in Madison/HSV. Have some good friends in Harvest we visit ever so often.

Hey, I just saw your car on the ninth!

Sweet Jesus, your car is absolutely stunning. A black GTB with no rear aerofoil - so sexy.

We have a big meeting down there once a year. The rest of the time I am more towards PC because I have a bay home in Lynn Haven. Still, I'll PM you if I head that way this year.

Did you say hello? Not finding a "Carbon" nor "Carb" in my rolodex LOL

What an awesome day, however. Wish we could do that every month.

I didn't, sorry, didn't know many people there. I was mostly focused on documenting the cars in attendance. During the drive over (I live in Riverside), I was concerned the cloudy and drizzly weather would make for a small event. But when I arrived, I was pleasantly surprised to see a huge turnout. It was a great day.

Like I said, I was just documenting, so I don't have any glamor shots. I'm not sure how you feel about license plates, so I'm not posting that picture. The glare on the windows kept me from getting a shot of the odometer.
