    Hi all,

Thought I'd share some information and questions...

I purchased my first Saratoga top approx. 2 years ago. The underside of the frame was not padded. The top did not have a serial tag so I don't know the serial number.

I recently sold that top and purchased another one, serial #817414. This top is identical to my previous one except that the fiberglass frame has factory fitted foam padding on the underside.

All of the tops I have pictures of lack the foam padding except for serial #817414. Anyone have information re which tops had padding? Was this likely a late serial number addition?

Below I have posted 2 pictures of my first top without the padding and 2 pictures of my second top with the padding.

    Thanks...

    Jim

Thanks Mike. Can't view the image though. Is that your top?

The top recently sold on eBay (#816752) did not have the padding.

Here are the prices I have been able to document over the past 2 years. No doubt more sales have taken place. I am only including the ones that I can document from eBay or personal knowledge.

    3/12, $1500, FerrariAds
10/12, approx. $2400, eBay, cracked fiberglass
    10/12, $3700, eBay
    12/13, $5600, eBay,
    1/14, $5000, FerrariAds
    1/14, $7000
    1/14, $5600, eBay, #816752

If others choose to add sale info, please include only those you can personally confirm. I'm aware of the one in CA that sold at a claimed $6k but didn't list due to inability to confirm.

    Best...Jim

I know the Saratoga top is nice and wish I had one for my 328, but those prices are nuts. YMMV, but that's my view of it. I know they are rare and that supply drives price, but $5K to $7K? Not me.

Jimmy, those are some crazy numbers. Wow!

I always thought that the realistic selling numbers on those babies would be around $1200-$1800

I guess I have been out of the loop.

I'll have to check mine and get back to you. I don't have any pictures of it on my iPad.

I love mine but I don't think I love it $7000. If someone else loves one $7000 they can have mine.

    Thanks Chris, and Tommy.

Too bad the moderator combined the two threads. They had completely different emphasis. No longer a thread for documenting/following sales prices. No longer a thread for construction details. Kind of a jumble now.

I'm thinking that soon someone will manufacture a Saratoga style top which should retail for around the $1500-1800 mark and totally devalue the existing original tops..

It happened with the original folding keys, they got as high as $450 a key then someone here remanufactured them for $75 and they stopped selling for those high prices..
    Just my speculation though..

Like others have said though,l rarely drive my car with the roof on but have bought a spare roof which l had painted red as l like the line of the car better with the red roof..

As much as l don't mind the look of the Saratoga, anything more than $1500 is crazy money.

But more power to the guys getting that sort of coin for the roofs though.

Yea, $2k is my limit and even then would have to be at a weak moment. Not bashing anyone, just not my thing.

I think many current owners were lucky and got in before the prices went so high.
