The LP640 is 2057mm without mirrors (the pre-LP640 Murciélago was slightly narrower at 2045mm), and 2240mm with mirrors.

Here's the CAD top view of the 4C. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2666898/4C-topview.pdf You'll notice 2090.1mm is the width including mirrors. The drawing says the width without mirrors is 1868.4mm, but Alfa Romeo officially declares 1864mm.

Wait, doesn't every car width measurement include the side mirrors? They are significant and should be included when discussing widths.

To the contrary - the width without mirrors is the one that's generally quoted. And rather commonly, manufacturers will only declare the width without mirrors. The 1937mm width of the 458, for example, is without mirrors. Others declare both widths.

Thanks! I'll find a FIAT dealer...this is just so odd though...I wonder what is holding AR (FIAT Group) from marketing the car and the brand in the US?

The problem has been they had to finalize the Chrysler deal, which was like a couple of weeks ago.

The car is delayed in Europe also by several months.

In Europe there is an average delay at the moment of about 3-4 months. Mostly because they were far too "generous" in terms of initial delivery times. The vast majority of people who bought the LE in Europe had a delivery date of 15th December (with up to 120-150 of possible delays).

They are also being apparently extremely careful about the quality of the cars coming out and prefer taking their time to get a "perfect" product out with some delay instead of a car with manufacturing faults

PS I am bored to wait....without any real news about delivery! The UK is the only country in Europe I know of which doesn't have an agreed manufacturing date for the LE!!!

PPS I remember some people in here were worried about insurance cost for the 4C. I got a quote in London which is not too expensive for such a car especially if you take into account the carbon tub. £1,400 per year with 5,000 miles per year from a top insurance carrier. Just to compare the 458 spider costs me £2,800

In the area of Germany I am in, the wait if you order is 18 months from the dealer, a large one near me.

can someone explain to me why 4c is any different/better than exige?

everything else equal i would rather have a stick shift exige 'driver experience' car than paddle alfa

    It's an Alfa Romeo!

    Also, CF tub...

    That makes it different enough.

It's actually a car you can use rather than that kit car from England with a Toyota motor.

10 years from now people will look at the 4c as the new generation in sports cars. Simple, light, turbo charged, 40 MPG when you want it, a track performer, and not terribly expensive.

Oh, and beautiful, as all great cars are eventually judged that way.

What I like about this car is that it's not designed for everyone. Thank heavens there are still people in this world who understand that when you design something intended for everyone, no one is completely satisfied.

For the lucky 3500 people a year who can get one, they will be.

Ask yourself this. Which car 10 years from now do you think people will look back at fondly? The Porsche Cayman, the Lotus Elige, or the 4c?

We all know the answer to that one already.

like i said. same thing as 10 yr old exige. simple, light, super charged, 40mpg, track performer, not terribly expensive

btw, the toyota motor is a gem that revs to 8000k and i compare it favorably to 997 gt3 i had before it. alfa will be lucky to equal it with their turbo economy motor

as far as looks, it is impossible to like one and not the other. same basic proportions

having said all that, i like the alfa. its my kind of car too. just think its the same formula as a lotus from the 1990's and we know how successful theyve been selling this type car. i hope alfa does better

Only a blind man would say that last statement. :)

Look... there are many, many British journalists who have driven both and prefer the Alfa. To me that says enough until I get into one myself.

To those of you who don't understand this car.... please, PLEASE do not buy one.

I'll get mine just that much quicker. :)

The turbo torque and light weight make the Alfa quick. Wait til tuners get their hands on it.

Looks pretty involved to me! Both are good drivers but the extra traffic really hinders both. Certainly the 4c is competitive!

I agree. Tuners will love this car. It's engine is basically an all aluminum version of the Giulietta. I just hope the gearbox will hold together!

The little Alfa is quick though.

Lotus driver was a pretty good driver (good lines - used the whole track, tires screeching...).
4C was not using the whole track and yet was gapping the Lotus.

I'd like to know what the specs were on the Lotus....didn't sound like it was supercharged...

I'm pretty sure I hear a super charger.

What the heck is with the econoboxes out there! What a mess...speed doesn't kill, disparity in speed kills.
