I was getting out of my 360 at the grocery store with my cousin the other day. A young fella and a nice looking gal pulled alongside in an old pick-up. Young guy leans out of his window – “You want to trade?” he says. “For that truck?” I replied. Big grin on his face - “No, for the wife”, at which point the girl in the truck swung round and slapped him. Everyone just burst into hysterical laughter. I love owning a Ferrari!

The original MR2 was directly inspired by the success of the FIAT X1/9.

    Cheers,

Was out in the 456M yesterday waiting in a restaurant for my takeaway. Two young guys left and then came back in and asked the owner whose Ferrari that was outside. He looked confused so they asked me if it was mine. I confirmed after which one asked me if it was a rental or if it was mine. Should have seen the look on his face when I told him I owned it!

I didn't have the heart to tell him is was nearly 15 years old!

Hell, most people are surprised to learn that my 308 isn't brand new!

(And anyway, the 456 is so much prettier than the car that succeeded it!) ;)

Oh, that's a little mean. I wouldn't ever say that to anyone. There was a time when I couldn't afford a Ferrari. To steal from a former Texas Governor, I wasn't born with a silver foot in my mouth.

I showed my 456M at the Esotico Italiano show sponsored by the Lamborghini Club of Austin yesterday - I got 3rd in the Modern Italian non-Lambo category! - and these two guys were going down the row of Ferraris. When they got to my car, one of them said, "It has the engine in the front! It just looks like a regular car!" They then shook their heads and walked off.

Lamborghini fans. If it's not mid-engine, it's not exotic. :)

I assume those two guys were youngsters so I cannot put the blame on all Lamborghini fans for their reaction. Going by the "If it's not mid-engine, it's not exotic" delusion I can now say my MR2's were "Exotics", right?

They were at least mid-20's, so not excusably young. And yes, the 1st generation MR2's WERE exotics. I almost bought one on several occasions to replace my X1/9, but needed a more versatile - read practical - car. :)

    Cheers,

    George

I bought a used MR2 (first gen) years ago in college to replace the 3 fiats I had keeping on running! The exotic part was having a car that always started!

Heck I guess they really were exotics, nobody makes anything that cool today for that $$...maybe the subaru BRZ, but can a subaru be exotic!

Someone look at my 1994 456 GT and said "tha'ts an old RX7 right? So I a ansewred no it's an old Celica Supra, he no sense disturbing his Japenese car fantassy.
Today a friend told me "what was your lotery ticket winning number" so I ansewred that I bought also a sign for the roof that says "pizza delivery=hottest pizza in town or it's free" so this is how I am paying for the car.
