News released today is to the effect that Bob Stallings team is finished for the year after Memo Gidley's bad crash at the 24 Hours of Daytona. This is a great loss to the entire American sports prototype scene, as the team won 2 season titles over the years yet still gave the quaint vibe of an old-school family organization. I have visited with the team several times over the years and spoke with them all on the grid for this year's 24; I felt they would prosper within the united series.
I hope Alex and Jon find rides commensurate with their talent and fan-friendliness, and many best wishes to Memo and all involved in this development.

sad news for sure. true that Bob Stallings is paying for Memo's medical bills himself? the press release, and some comments afterwards, seemed to indicate that.

I hope everyone on the team finds a new home, great team with a long history. it would be a shame for road racing to lose all that talent.

I had heard they were only looking at a limited race season this year (4 races was all they could commit to?). That was just prior to Memo's crash. That's a real shame, the 99 was a fixture for so many years.
    Dang sport sure is fickle.

I had just read an article on Autoweek about this.

Terrible blow to the new series especially as up until
the shunt, the Gainsco car looked like the class of the
    field.

You hate to see anyone crash and get hurt but if that
shunt threw off their whole season, that is really tough.

Even before the season started they talked about the financial hit they were going to take updating their cars to 2014 spec. It sounds like they were struggling with finances before the season even started so writing off a car wouldn't help.

Hopefully they return in 2015 and Memo makes a full recovery to drive again. They've always had quick cars. Missing the Red Dragon will suck.
