My headlights were so weak, I could ride around with my hi-beams on and no one flashed their lights at me. I had the old sealed beam headlights and I could barely see. I did Mike's HID headlight upgrade. Super easy and no cutting or modifying of the original headlight system. It has it's own 12 volt + connection straight to the battery and each ballast has it's own ground. No need to make up relays to overcome the car's weak headlight system. The only connection to the existing system is a plug & play connection to one of the headlight connectors so it knows whether to be hi-beam or low. I did go with a projector headlamp but if you wanted a more traditional looking light you could. The total cost from DDM Tuning was $59.95. I went with the 55 watt system and 6000K on the bulb color. The higher you go the more blue the color. The lower you go, the more yellow. Thanks Mike for answering all my questions. It is really worth doing if you drive at night at all!

You're welcome David, I'm glad you like the difference it made from stock. One of the main reason I went HID is because I do drve mine at night occasionally. I only have the 35 watts but planning on upgrading to the 55 watts. Even with the 35 watts it makes a huge difference. It really is worth it as not only you can see better at night driving, it also add safety to driving.

Is there a link detailing this upgrade?

Wow - very interested! I drive with my high beams on as well...more because I'm so low that it only hits people in the grille anyway haha!

Seriously - I love great lighting - want more details as Kananga states...

The price has come way down since when Mike did his. From $220 to $59 but his included two projector headlights. I bought my headlights from Summit for about $50 for both. Still a very inexpensive upgrade. Here is a link (no affliation).

DDM Tuning : HID Kits and Components

You will need to select the H4 Hi/Low option, choose wattage, and choose color. They do ship from China so it takes about a week to get them.

Henry, the difference are, HID is a little brighter than LED. The nice thing about LED is that it doesn't need any relay and plugs right into the H-4 socket and only uses 25 watts rather than 35 on the HID. Also, with the LED, it doesn't need to warm like the HID so, as soon as you turn the light swithc on, it's ready also good for flash to pass using the high beam.

Thanks Mike...I'm going to look into both of these options. Might go LED for the simplicity and lower current draw.

Bad, bad influence. Just ordered my kit plus lamp housings. I went with the 35Watt system figuring less stress on alternator, wiring and switches, even though. I am sure that it will be a great improvement without screwing others on the road (too much).

    Robert,
Haven't you spent enough money on the 'Red Ho" yet? Just kidding. It is very easy and you will love the results. I took my louvers out and riveted the ballasts to the metal panels just over the front wheels (shown in the picture). Based on the length of the wiring harness supplied, that was about the only place I could find to put them. Once the louvers go back in, they are out of almost out of sight.
    Best Regards,
    Dave

Thanks for tips Dave and yes I have paid for services of the 'Ho for a long time. One of the reasons I told Mike he was a bad influence. However, I went through the trouble of converting the dash lights to LED so night driving would be more pleasurable so this is really an extension of that project. Now how does that justification fly? I'm testing it on you before the wife.

I can hear her now. "Yes dear you are right". Me on the other hand, I just don't tell my wife. It is easier that way. I am more of the "ask forgiveness rather than ask permission" type of guy.

Hmmm.....think I will convert it sounds a lot easier. Problem is my wife is a therapist and reads my poker face with that third eye behind her head while in another room. Virtually impossible to get anything past it.

No she is just as bad as me when it comes to cars. She wants to give her Mercedes to my 16 year old daughter so she can go out and buy a new one. By the way what color lights did you go with (5000K, 6000K)?

Wonder if the Xeon kit would integrate with my Hella housings.

Do you have bulbs that remove from the housing or are they sealed beams?
