[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uM6be1Az1pY[/ame] Back in May when Ferrari held the Corse Clienti event at Monza, this video shows the 599XXs / XX EVOs in action from many points of the track. Those downshifts are mental!
...and this is onboard with car no. 8. This car is owned by two Norwegian cavallino entusiasts from my area. One standing beside the car in pitlane. Just an amazing sound!!! Awesome videos. I don't mean to start WWIII here, (and maybe it's just me) but does it look like these 599xx/Fxx drivers need some....training? They all drive too slowly. Nowhere near the limit, until of course they go right through it and then have trouble. I also noticed that at the 458 Challenge race at Daytona in January. Lots of amateur mistakes. Just thinking out loud.
To drive in the 458 Challenge series you are required to have a B class race license, the races are also divided into two classes it is now a Pro-Am series. To drive an XX class car at the Corsa Clienti events you are not required to have the license, hence the wide gap in driver ability. I have been around Sonoma raceway and Laguna Seca in a 599XX evo and an FXX evo with two different drivers and I can tell you first hand there was is a large gap in driving ability between these two gentlemen. My friend with the 599XX is a much better driver than the my buddy with the FXX. You can elect to have Ferrari give you time with one their instructors but several owners did not do that, in fact several owners have taken delivery and never driven their cars. My first session out in a 599XX at Sonoma we were stuck behind another 599XX for half the session (I won't say the number) who did not exceed 85mph through turn 12, if you know the course, you'll know how slow that is.
A "B" class in the USA is a National licence. In the Coppa Shell the level ranges from very good to very "gentlemanly"...This is a series for rich gentleman drivers and the Corse Clienti programmes are the same. Some are quick, some are not. There was a US participant (super nice guy) who also raced in the Challenge Series in the USA who was so slow that it was said that there were mosquitos on his trunk.... The point is, people do this for fun. Fast or not fast, as long as they enjoy themselves and are happy, then it is a success!!
