And lower. It's the same idea as using vertical stripes in suits to make you look taller than thinner. Stripes break up the form and make them look longer and thinner. I'm so happy they didn't go with the very common usage of a large black bumper "hidden" in the grill like the F type Jag. So many cars are doing this now. Image Unavailable, Please Login
The reason cars are doing this is due to pedestrain protection. Worst example is the next generation Mini, it looks absolutely horrible. Still don't think the dark color (it's darker than Maranello and Fuoco but lighter than Vinaccia, just can't remember the name now argh...) suits the car very well. Also, as Traveller said, bi-color is not the way to go with this car.
I like the color. I know it is new, but I wonder how much different from r. maranello. I don't think that I would have the black roof, and would certainly get different wheels (but I don't think that I like the alternate wheel that was shown at the debut--maybe the previous diamond polished forged wheel would be best). Shield is good, and I can live with rear difuser. All in all, I think it is a good looking car.
I'm so happy you don't like the new mini because... I just ordered one. I do agree with you though. I can live with it on a mini but on the Jag -- it bothers me. It would bother me in the CA.
The color is not new, I recall the name now. Pretty certain it's Rosso Fiorano. Saw a Cali 30 with it back in 2012. A bit of an odd color at first sight but grew on me the more I saw the car. The color tone is much nicer and visually pleasing in real life than on that crappy smart phone picture.
I was invited to the preview and saw a pre-production prototype of the new Mini last autumn. The front end is not nice, come on! It's way too underhung and the headlights too big. As well as that, the car is huge! I was disappointed. The interior was alright though. The black bar makes it look like the car is puking some black stuff out of it's mouth.
Yes it looks like RF. Very nice on this car. I am very happy that Ferrari Central Styling did such a nice job here. It bodes well for the future -- the 458 replacement etc.
Agree on all points! But, I need a little car for LA driving and my parking space. Kia? No way. Don't like hamsters. Fiat... ummm, not ready for prime time. And I refuse to drive a Scion and look like an 19 year old! The car is bigger but to be frank about the USA, the other 2 versions were a little too small for most. The back seat was useless. If anyone sat in the back, the front passengers had to move the seats all the way forward. NOW ... back to the new CA.
Car is definitely okay, the interior on the new one is a big step up in terms of user-friendliness. Base engines are amazingly good, no need to get the S anymore! But for us here in Europe I see the BMW 1-series a much better proposition considering the size of the new Mini in comparison. F20 1-series is a really really good car. Well worth the extra $. I have no idea what they are thinking at Mini since they are bringing a four-door Mini to the market... Idiocy (and not to mention redundancy) in multiple levels. Yes, back to Cali T, starting from NOW!
The production fitment of the wheels on the new Cali is so wrong it hurts, Ferrari needs to take a page from the new Astons and get the spacing done right. It looks 'under-tired' and the wheels don't go out far enough to reach body. It makes such a massive different to the overall design language and stance of the car.
I thought that the red car at Geneva was the same one at the premier. Maybe it is not. The red color of the red one at the premier is called Rosso California. It is a new color according to Ferrari press release. The blue one at the premier is called Blu California. It is also a new color according to Ferrari.
Does Ferrari make the standard wheels extremely bland on purpose so that everyone has to pay for upgraded wheels, or is there actually someone at the factory who thinks that those wheels really look good on the car? The same thing holds true the old Cali, the standard wheels were just so boring.
Ferrari has to do something with those wheels... they're just too plain and boring. I'm sure (and hope) that an aftermarket companies will make the rear diffuser with those extractors in carbon fiber (along with other plastic pieces that come from factory).
If we are lucky they will have optional wheels like on the 458. I wonder when the configurator will go online. I know they want to sell these ASAP.
The colors you mention are new. But I think the California T pictured on the last page is Rosso Fiorano. I could very well be wrong, as it looks like Ferrari are bringing the same cars from the Modena launch to Geneva (see attached picture). Which would mean the Cali on the previous page is Rosso California, not Fiorano. How about never... No Speciale configurator for over 6 months! Hopefully it won't be the same with the Cali T! Picture below from Geneva, white Cali (car from the Modena preview?) But why oh why are both the cars bi-color? I want to see a single color car! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Well well well, what do you know. Apple launch their anticipated in-car iOS at Geneva! Traveller you and I had it right all along, can't be much between this and Ferrari giving more detail on their "iPhone friendly MMI". Apple - Press Info - Apple Rolls Out CarPlay Giving Drivers a Smarter, Safer & More Fun Way to Use iPhone in the Car Apple CarPlay: iOS on Your Dashboard
Will this be part of the Cali T launch or is this something that Ferrari is working into their models across the board? At least most everyone is familiar with the O/S. I wonder if it will do automatic updates as well. Thanks for sharing...have fun in Geneva
Across the board, but I understand that only as each new model is launched. For example F12 will continue to get existing system until an M version or whatever is launched.
How do the wheels on the white car look in person? At first I didn't like them, but I've seen another picture and them seem to be okay, at least better than the standard ones. If those are the only two choices, it might be a difficult decision. I clearly don't like the standard ones.
I have not yet seen the Cali T in the flesh. But those look like diamond finished rims, and on the outgoing Cali I saw at least two of them in Bianco Fuji with diamond finished rims and it looks very nice. (it has to be said Bianco Fuji is my absolute favorite color for the California)
Thanks for the link. Looks cool...but I wonder what happens if you don't have an iPhone. Anyway anything is better compared to what's available at the moment on the California and the 458!
I am most excited for the tuning capabilities! The performance increases you will see from simple exhausts, High flow cats and an ECU tune should be quite impressive if this follows the form of all of the other turbo platforms out there! Looking forward to getting one of these in the shop ASAP.
