I waited several month to find an FF with the options I wanted, once I received it was very excited and happy, however, after only 300 miles had " engine failure" warning light appear, must say I was angry at first, but now I just want to fix it so I can drive the car daily again. Since I live 2.5 hours away from dealer, they are picking car up tomorrow. Will let you know what problem is, in case this happens to you in future. Like Rick car works perfectly

Good luck with the repair! The wait will be excruciating but worth it. Mine said Engine System Control Failure. If yours was the same it will be very interesting to see what caused it.

Was the faulty air flow solenoid on mine that caused the error message

Was this air flow solenoid easy to fix?, any other problems with your FF?, this car was bought as a daily driver, so hope won't give me future problems

A straightforward replacement for the solenoid.

The problem with the Engine System Control failure is that it is a fairly broad error and can be caused by any number of factors. The most time consuming aspect of this error is tracking down the culprit.

Have to drive mine some more before embarking on 3000 mile trip. Have only 650 miles and no fault yet.

Here is an update on my car, as you recall I had a light with " engine system failure" car was working fine, then had " electrical failure light", then battery died, after jump starting car, was working fine but lights still present, sent car to dealer
After diagnostic evaluation was told electrical glitch, battery and electrical system checked, everything working fine
Now car working and running fine!

Are they saying that it was just a glitch? Didn't the OBD give a fault?

PS My neighbor's Benz ML did the same thing. Has been fine for 6 months afterward. These electrical/computer things are nuts.

We have a saying in the trade. Sometimes cars go into "retard mode". Static electricity is the main cause of this. The electronics on modern cars are quite sensitive to this. To the point were us technicians gave to wear a ground strap around our wrists when working with certain modules in a car. An airbag ecu for instance.

Your dealer is probably right. You won't see this issue again for a while.

    Interesting and useful post. Thanks.

My wife does IC board CAD and soldering. She wears an anti static strap all the time.

Nothing found on the car, no fault seen on computers, just " possessed" for no reason, maybe next time will have it undergo exorcism before calling dealer :)

Good luck! I had a Mercedes that twice while driving from Toledo east, as I went by Cleveland the gas gage went to zero ... started to work about 50 miles later. Very strange.

Since replacing the 'thermostat' my engine light has stayed away. :)

    Rick.

BMWs are known for gremlins. My X5M did it all the time. Am hoping to avoid them with the FF because there is actually less electronics.
