Totally agree But I think Apple play will need a center mounted touch screen to work. So, you are stuck with the 458's until they redesign the dash or come out with the new one. What this is really is putting Siri on the infotainment. The question is -- how well does it also work withe Android.
Aren't there Euro regulations the say the wheels cannot stick out as much from the body line? I've heard something that this has been changed for pedestrians and people's feet being run over.
yes,the tire can never stick outside of the body surface occasionally cars that are designed in the US run into ptoblems in this area and that's why you see those small black pieces that cover the tire but it's a conscious decision for Ferrari to have the face of the sidewall where it is different size wheels/tires can cause problems in this area as well cars that have a multitude of tire size options have to be very careful how they handle this otherwise some tire/wheel combos make the car look like the hippo on the barstool from the rear/front
+ 1 gazillion ... iTunes is clearly the winner of the World's Worst Software award! I carry a stupid iPhone, have a stupid iPad all for the apps. I have no music on either because I have lost the music way too many times. Rick
I sure hope cars won't be some new front for mobile OS wars.. iPhone only this one.. Android only that one etc.. I guess can only be grateful Microsoft doesn't figure highly in there.
Looks like the white car has a front-mounted camera in the centre of the grill above the cavallino. Hopefully this will effectively supplement the front sensors which do not work well in the current Calfornias. The current sensors are not designed for the low clearance of the splitter and do not provide consistent early warning. As a result sometimes you park way off and other times, the sensors go off too late and your car has already gone over the curb.
Not to be a smart aleck or anything, can anyone explain this sentence? "For the record, Ferrari works with IHI turbochargers, which are placed on the sides of the engine, not between its cylinder banks - they’ve chosen this position in order to power the gravity center of the engine." Is the word "power" supposed to be "lower"? or am I missing something...
Aaaaaaand, here is Ferrari's official release on CarPlay. http://www.ferrari.com/english/gt_sport%20cars/gt/Pages/140303-the-ferrari-california-t-and-the-apple-carplay-equipped-ff-debut-tomorrow-at-geneva.aspx "The Geneva International Motor Show 2014 provides the venue for tomorrow’s debut of the California T, the new Prancing Horse V8 which looks set to be the queen of the event. Flanking it on the Ferrari stand will be Maranello’s revolutionary four-seater four-wheel-drive FF sporting the new Apple CarPlay system. This means that from tomorrow, Ferrari clients will enjoy the smarter, safer and more fun way to use iPhone in the car. CarPlay provides iPhone users with an incredibly intuitive way to make calls, use maps, listen to music and access messages with just a word or a touch. Users can easily control CarPlay from the car’s native interface or just push-and-hold the voice control button on the steering wheel to activate Siri without distraction."
I think you'll likely be disappointed. Apple is on the Ferrari board, Google is not. Google likes to promote "driverless cars" (to which LdM would likely say "over my dead body!"). Ferraris are sold to clientele who can easily afford whatever and however many phones they want or need. Very few Ferraris are sold in the world. Ferrari is clearly not creating hardship on their car owners. Even Rick, an avid Apple hater, admittedly uses iPhones and iPads. I used to develop commercial software used in hi-tech manufacturing by the top-5 companies in their respective industrial sectors. Hardware systems that support multiple platforms are always handicapped because they cannot perform optimally for a particular platform and would incur complexities and monetary costs that are not justifiable. Tightly-coupled systems offer the highest performance and security - all leading edge technology is proprietary by definition. The best systems offer special hardware on top of special software. Even Android is deployed in different flavours by the various "Android" phone makers because each phone maker HAS TO use special hardware to set themselves apart from other Android systems. OPEN SYSTEMS for the consumer market a definition for suicide. Steve Jobs understood that very well and withstood all of the idiotic advice from naysayers. Think for a moment why Apple only supports their own hardware and neither MacOS nor iOS runs on 3rd party hardware. Remind yourself where Apple is and what happened to IBM, COMPAC and Windows. Also have a look at this report "…Google's new Android chief Sundar Pichai admitted that security plays second fiddle to "freedom" in the design …Last month, a report by Cisco detailed that 99 percent of mobile malware targets Android…". Now ask yourself why Ferrari would want to run Android in their Fcar's infotainment system.
+1 I always enjoy it when someone with strong knowledge and exeperience within a subject outside of the Ferrari world write up posts like this on FChat. As you say, the best performance will be the result of close cooperation. Why on earth should Ferrari have an open system, and why should they be open to work with a company that has not displayed any vested interest in in-car technology outside of autonomous vehicles? (I'm specifically thinking of Android here, keep Google Maps out of it). Apple iOs is a uniform system that works the same on all mobile devices. Android has variations from manufavturer to manufacturer and is not as stable not all "android compatible" hardware work equally well on the variation of android running mobile devices. Apple is a unison product and has a large market share and outreach including them being a single firm, building hardware, designing the software that goes into the hardware etc. Looks like we will be able to demo the CarPlay software at Geneva. I'll try to make a video of it in action.

I can tell you that this is not 100% true, as I´m writting this with a Hackintosh. And yes, building it is a pain in the a$$!! LOL.
Found this on GT Spirit's site. AMAZING!!!! LOVE IT IN ONE COLOR (as opposed to black roof). Look at those lines!! Image Unavailable, Please Login
They are claiming the right things. We will see what the tests and regular drivers say. It does seem like they are making a major investment in TT technology that is not likely to be confined to just the California.
