I have faith in Phil (never lost it) and if he is the #1 driver this boost of confidence from the team could be what he has needed for so long. Having said that I now remember something of the sorts that Williams does not place a #1 or #2 on their drivers, true? With the Merc engine they will hopefully be able to at least fight for wins and a higher placing in the WCC.

I guess the old adage that "times flies faster the older you get" is a good thing in this instance as it seems like just yesterday we were all saddened by the end of the season and now we have less than two weeks to go.

Melbourne will be a race of preservation in an effort to simply finish. It would be foolish potentially to run the machine too hard at all. I wonder if they will be using full power in the units given the fact that all teams had reliability issues in testing. This could be a race that's more about avoiding a meltdown rather than displaying outright pace.

I would say that's a pretty good bet. At this point I think the only real prediction you can make is that it will be quite unpredictable. If things line up as Merc-Williams-Ferrari-Force India, etc then that will be a real revelation.

Regarding Seb, until they a) get the car's problems sorted and b) find some speed, I can see why nobody's picking him top-5. Unlike the past four years, he doesn't have the best car on the grid, at this time at least.

Ferrari may be behind the first few races. They have been running only partial power through their ERS system entirely due to heat issues which of course started at Jerez by their noticing their mgu-h was getting overly hot and the cable transporting energy to the battery was overheating. I know the mgu-h is now a larger unit and the cable issues have only been somewhat resolved. Ferrari have run on full power on some occasions as is shown by their very high top speed, but not much or often. I think MB are not actually using a cable to transfer their energy but I'm not entirely sure.... Regardless, give ferrari through Spain or Monaco to really get going.

Red Bull will need until Spain or Monaco to finish a race, then they still won't be competitive as the Renault unit is just not strong. RB10 at least looks like a potent machine though.

I hope you are kidding. I remember a very similar comment somebody else made here in 2007 and it triggered my gag reflex

I think the F cars will disappoint as they usually do in the first race.

I think McLaren and Williams will surprise people and Red Bull will disappoint.

I predict Vettel will NOT win.

I'll be happy with the top 3 if it includes any of these. Button, Alonso, Raikkonen, Perez, Kobayashi.

    Do you ever? :D

    (Sorry, just couldn't resist. ;))

All kidding aside, as much as 'we' rail on the Scuderia, 6 from 13 is a pretty darn good record! That they don't win it all every year just shows, once again, how hard it is.....

    Cheers,
    Ian
