F1 Watching Party

James, two months ago I talked to Matt at the Back 9 in Addison at one of Walt's Exotics on the Rocks lunch about hosting an F1 Watching party. He seemed very interested. You and I have talked a couple of times since and last Saturday. Did you have a chance to run by an verify that they will do it? The first race is Sunday the 16th of March. If we are going to plan one we need to get the show on the road.

 

I talked to Matt previously and set it up. We should be good.

 

Yup, I have talked to both Matt and Tony...they will be waiting for us to be there and have cones put out on the front.

The race is on Sunday the 16th at 1:00 Central on TV - probably those who want to come should tell Shawn or post here so that Tony will know how many cones to put out.
Probably try to be there by 12:30 to get a seat and see the pre-race festivity and of course the start.

This is AN IMPORTANT RACE!!! First race of the 2014 season, and first race with all the wild new technical requirements. I for one suspect that there may be a three ring circus of mechanical issues - but maybe they have tested better than we know.

Let us clarify - this is an open event (not FCA only) as all the F1 watch parties have always been.

So we hope to see all F1 fans there!

We hope to see Kimi win again! (well, most of us anyway)

 

Count me in! Look forward to Kimi with Ferrari, but I still think Hamilton is the most talented driver in F1 these days.

 

And he may well have the best car this year. Not that I agree he is the best.

 

Hi - I called them and they are a smoking restaurant/bar. They have an area reserved for non-smokers. FYI

I have been there doing serious research. The front is indeed smoking but in the back room there is virtually no evidence of that nasty tobacco odor and I do not like that stuff at all. We will have the back room, with our own sound and TVs

I don't think so (it is Australia) but it is the first broadcast on NBCsports.

Do you know if the Back9 allows kids? My 6 year old always watches the races with me. It's no problem if it isn't, he can stay home with his siblings.

 

Yes, they are fine with kids so long as it is before 8:00 - and we are from about 1:00 to 3:00 in the afternoon.

The flyer indicates Saturday 1 PM. My dvr is set for Sunday 1 AM. While a rerun is set for 5:30 AM. I do not see a rerun set for 1 PM Sunday. If we are going to do this, we need to circumcise our watches.

I just confirmed this. P1 is Thursday night at 8:30 so we can all enjoy live but more importantly the race is Sunday morning at 12:30 am with the rebroadcast at 5:00 am. No more broadcast are scheduled on NBC Sports. Does the restaurant have the ability to record and show or do we need to make different plans?

 

I have already talked to Matt the manager. I am going to do a test run with my personal DVR.
