That luggage looks like the one on the pistachio Ghibli spyder ... which was also restored by Candini. I am willing to put money that neither set is original.

The hardware looks very simple. I'm surprised that there is no cast trident on the clasp or something to make it a little special.

After obtaining many photos and exact measurements I decided to have the luggage reproduced. I could have not been happier with the results as they turned out exactly the way I remember the factory luggage. Even the interior of the luggage was done similar to the originals. The other good news is it was completed just in time for the Amelia Island Concours.

It turns out this luggage also fits perfectly inside the trunk of the Mistral spyder and the Bora, so my next project is to make luggage for those cars. I know this luggage was available for the Bora as I have seen them on the sales brochure. Does anybody know of a Mistral with luggage? I suspect they could have been special ordered since the 3500GT coupe prototype had luggage.

Not to sideline the luggage discussion but has anyone noticed the rear of the Bora in this picture? Must be a prototype. the storage compartments are angled at a 45. Interesting

It is constructed very differently. There's no structural support for the carpet side panels and there's some fender liner that protrudes very differently but storage compartments ???

Perhaps this is covered in Marc's book? My copy got put into storage last year so I don't have access.

    Bob,

Books are for reading NOT storing and cars are for driving NOT tinkering...

Yes very early Bora shown in my book, used in publicity shots, which also had square headlight covers and a unique early stylized Bora script...but well you'll just have to go to your storage unit now and retrieve your copy:)

    Best regards,

    Marc

PS: Be really wild and do it in your Bora:)

Anyone "doing it" in a Bora is certainly not "doing it" well. :D

Well We have one more set of stuff to bring out of storage after last years flood but at the moment I'm dealing with this year's kitchen fire which just bout wrapped up. Espada is up next though. The book should be back in the house in about a week or two. I've never even cracked it open

Great luggage, amazing that you were able to get a set reproduced so accurately. I am interested in a set. Sent you a PM

Since everyone is talking "luggage" on this thread, my 3500 GT, 101-2786, at some point in its life, had a luggage rack on its trunk. The remnents of the four filled holes remain visible. I believe it was the original owner had added this. Has anyone ever seen a 3500GT fitted as such?

    Hi Ivan,
    Great job!
I would like to have a set for my Mistral too. If possible in dark red leather, like the one of the Ghibli Spider 1181 above.
Can you send me a pm with more informations?
    Thanks, Alain.

    Hi André,
    very nice set.
    Some interesting questions:
Was this an original accessoir offered by the factory to the Vignale or did you order this set from your personal point of view? I have never heard of a factory offered set before.
Do all 3 parts really fit perfectly into the trunk compartment ?
Can you provide a foto with the set in the trunk please ?
It seems my trunk is too small for all 3 parts.
But if it really fits, I would consider to order one set.
    Regards
    Alfred

    Hi Alfred,

I’m actually on a business trip (btw very near to your home town) until next Wednesday. Thursday I will post some pix with all 3 pcs in my trunk.
I know that Maserati has offered the luggage set for the 3500 GT Touring......but I do not know the sizes of each single pc. and I do not know how many pcs were it in total (2 or 3?). That’s why I have asked to the community here to send some pictures.
My set was made by Maieli after one original luggage set of the Ghibli. The dimensions and the quantity of each single luggage was defined by myself.

    Regards,
    André

Here is the factory delivered luggage set of Khamsin 352, the only K I know in the world with it. Another K, found in Calabria after sitting for many years and currently being restored in the south of France also had a set when new according to Maserati Classiche but it has long since disappeared. 352 is near Zurich Switzerland and one of the top five cars in existence, not for sale.
    Best regards,

    Marc

Nice stuff, but not the most efficient way to use space in the boot!
