I agree with Lewis. All things do indeed happen for a reason. Lewis sees the bigger picture with this one. Senna's death, JFK, , WWII, anything.

Hmm, interesting point. I might agree as I believe in the concept. That said I don't see the reason but time will tell.

It's a strange and at times dark world we live in. Only time will indeed tell

    Hunh?

Lewis is talking about the adversity making Michael stronger.

How did Senna's death make him stronger?

How did JFK's death make him stronger? How did it change his character?

Please tell me the bigger picture with Senna and JFK.

^^^^ By the way . . . I just re-read what I wrote. I was not trying to be confrontational about your comment, but I simply did not understand it. At first I thought you were being facetious or cynical about LH's comments, which prompted my post. After reading it, however, I think you may be serious. And, I honestly don't see the bigger picture in such tragic deaths. But I am open to considering other views.

I can certainly understand LH's comment. Its human nature to ascribe reason and purpose to tragic events, to make fate answerable in the end, but its a cruel universe out there...

I am really not understanding this line of reasoning.

Sometimes bad things happen. But there is no higher or better purpose in it. I understand the part of human nature wanting answers, but sometimes there are none.

The thing I keep thinking about is how he went motorcycle racing after his first retirement. I didn't understand how, having cheated death or serious injury for so long, he wouldn't retire with his great history and wealth, but of course that is not the type of person he is. After decades of top level racing and being fueled by adrenalin-either he needed it from the start or grew addicted to it and the regular world just moved too slowly for him to really feel alive
    .
Skiing is an adrenalin rush and dangerous and now he has been caught out in a freak accident-maybe his greatness and great accomplishments living on the physical edge have caught up with him and maybe it was always to be eventually.

There are many people like him, the fellow flying the jet packs/wing suits that was renown and crashed recently comes to mind.

The sudden brutal end of Senna was shocking and instantly final...some how this unknown state, dragging on seems the worst possible outcome for someone so mighty, though if he were to fully recover it would be sensationally good news. We are in limbo with him, which is such a great contradiction for a man whose very persona embodied speed and power and calculated control.

I check this thread everyday hoping for news of improvement but there is really nothing. Just the thought that the body is there and the man is missing. It is very hard to accept.

I don't disagree; maybe I'm a nihilist at heart. There are a lot of people out in the world that need an answer at all cost—even if it means throwing reason out the door.

Its been emphasized many times in this thread—never take anything for granted. MS had it all, and yet if he had stayed in bed an extra fifteen minutes or been distracted in some other way his day might have been completely different. Unfortunately, its no consolation to his family, friends, and all his world-wide fans.

    Forza Michael!

you two have defined the great philosophical, indeed religious, divide: is there or is there not a 'greater purpose' that we neither know or can comprehend, to all that happens.

Reminds me of a close friend who passed just last week. When he sneezed and someone said: 'God bless you!' he'd respond: 'why thank'ee kindly! I'm not an atheist, a denier, but I am agnostic and don't believe in God. But I could be wrong and I can use all the help I can get.'

    Pascal's wager.

But I don't get LH's statement how this is somehow applies to MS.

LOL. Looks like he has a good car this year.

I'm not a big fan of Lewie. I still remember when he told Massa, "Don't you ever touch me again." I thought that was really weak and whiney.

I'm no Hamster fan but he deserves some slack here guys. I think he was trying to be profound but is not the sharpest knife in the drawer. He meant well and ought not be damned for saying this.
That headline doesn't properly convey his statement or sentiment. The journos are the real muppets here.

Off topic again. I check this thread to see if there are any real updates about MS. Can not help but think about him daily.

Hamilton is much different than he was at McLaren. Who knows what he really said to the reporters. Maybe the reporter was the tool. Still, would rather not waste time reading posts not directly about MS's condition.

I usually check everyday at about 8:00 in the morning if there has been anything new in the last 24h; there has been nothing new, officially, since Sabine Kehm's last communiqué.

Agreed. He's simply stating what millions of people think in general; that things happen for a reason. Whether it makes sense or not.

I'll never understand the hatred of Hamilton.

Agreed. He's not the most articulate guy ever but he didn't mean any harm here. I'm sure he has immense respect for Michael.

It was nice to see the NBC sports guys send out some thoughts before the race.
