What's happened to formula 1 - the cars sound awful - where's the scream.

Sound like a Nissan with a broken exhaust.

    Very disappointing!

I have to agree. Thoroughly disappointed. Will have to wait for Canadian GP to hear them in person but looks like I will not even be wearing ear protection. F1 sounds were just fantastic.

Turbo sports cars, prototypes and street cars can sound VERY sexy and menacing. Too bad they couldn't put more effort into getting a more exciting aural element from the pinnacle of motorsport, which doesn't sound like it at the moment...

The sound for me is secondary.

The fact that this year we may actually have on track competition, and a WDC that may not known until the last race, makes this season worth getting up early for every race. I would rather have that even if they sounded like Deux Chevauxs drag racing on the Champs de Elysee.

I think they sound great, never liked the V8's much.

Honestly, the more I listen the more I like them. Lots of whooshing and mechanical sounds from them, instead of the painful scream that required earplugs

    Exactly.

The need for some to constantly complain never ceases to amaze me.

Simple answer if you can't bear the sound coming out of your TV tin pot speakers, don't watch it.

It is going to sound great at the start of the race when they are all fighting for that first corner with the popping and buzzing of the turbos. Should be good.

As Martin Brundle said "900hp never sounds boring".

So, now go out and enjoy listening to your 8 and 12 cylinder machines! Know, that the future is upon us and there is nothing we can do.

Or just turn the sound off altogether if it bothers you that much..... I suspect the same folk complain about the talking heads too, so maybe their enjoyment level would increase a little. ;)

    +1

It was one of the best qualy sessions we've witnessed in quite a while. Very much doubt they'll all be that good though.... A little too much to hope for.....

Hopefully we'll have a good race too. Fer sure they don't sound great, but I suspect we'll adapt over the season. It is good that they don't all sound the same anymore - We used to play 'guess the lump' when deep in the woods at Brands, and very seldom got one wrong.....

    Cheers,
    Ian

You might have tin pot speakers attached to your TV, but not all of us do...

Maybe they could just give the PA microphone to this guy during the race. :)

That's like saying dump the supermodel girlfriend if you don't like her blouse.

The sound is a disappointment but not a deal breaker. If they have to soft pedal the race in order to save gas, well then it might be time to say "Ta Ta Naomi".

It was me that pointed that out about the fuel, I agree total nonsense however I see what they are trying to do, it's another nod to the tree huggers, and keeping it relevant to current mass produced cars, F1 should be cutting edge IMO, not regressing back to what makes your ears happy, historic's if you miss it that badly FIA Masters Historic Formula One Championship | Federation Internationale de l'Automobile

Now for folk with a nice sound system < not tin pot, if you don't like the current sound, seems you wasted your money...:D

However sound yes its not the best, but as far as I have heard there are some sounds I quite like, pops whooshing whizzing gears engaging stuff, I quite like it almost expecting a Kahboom sound.

Still end at the end of the day...... it's better than nothing..

BTW super model blouse ...it would never be on long enough to matter if I had my way..;)

The sound from inside the car during on-car camera shots was great. All kinds of stuff going on rather than just exhaust noise which drowned out everything else.

The qualy coverage didnt show nearly enough on-car though.

I like that we can now hear the tires locking before we can see the smoke. I like that Ted Kravtiz can continue talking as a car leaves the pitlane. I like that I can actually understand the drivers on the radio.

The start will still be loud with all of them right on top of each other. After that, we'll be able to hear alot more of what is going on.

    True.

I might even find an other use for the sound system.
I hear you can play music on them.

    ;)
