Things have changed in my life and for now I don't have the time to run this car. I am selling one of my Challenge cars, this particular one is the lowest mileage one I own and the very best one I own. The one I'm selling is my 2009. It has 5700 kilometers of track time, no crashes, no "offs" or any damage at all. It also has a brand new factory 430 Motor from FNA installed about 200 kilometers ago. Clutch wear is at 7.29%. The original owner was using it for just track days and decided he was going to run it in CCR class. He did not want any issues so he had a brand new, not rebuilt, factory motor installed. The motor alone was $57000.00, I have the receipt for it. He never ended up running it and I bought the car. It has complete Areo, front splitter/ adjustable rear wing, custom built long tube headers, with straight thru mufflers, steel brake conversion, 2 extra sets of wheels, one with new rain tires, one extra set of sway bars and a complete lexan side windows (like new). I fixed all the small paint chips, Clear bra the entire front end, complete doors, lower rockers, window pillars and lower half of rear quarters. It had a small amount of oil residue on at the rear main seal area so I replaced the rear main seal and had all new fluids replaced except for the coolant. The Plexiglas windshield is new with a protective covering. The seats are like new also. All log books/keys & the original MSO. I want $149900.00 As usual I have a lot more in it than that but, I'm moving on to something else. This is by far the nicest F430 Challenge car out there for sale and in very rare white. It's set up very well, very easy to drive and very low maintenance cost. I have only run it 1 time at COTA on a Ferrari track day. It's the nicest 430 Challenge car out there, Pete @ Universal knows the car well. One of the main qualities of this car is that it has never been raced in the Challenge Series, just used for personal track days and it is fresh, everywhere you look. I might be interested on trades for street cars as well.

I understand this to be a great car, but, it is slightly inaccurate to imply this car was not raced. The OP:

"The original owner was using it for just track days and decided he was going to run it in CCR class . . ." " . . . He never ended up running it and I bought the car . . " "One of the main qualities of this car is that it has never been raced in the Challenge Series, just used for personal track days and it is fresh, everywhere you look."

The car was raced in an entire 2011 season of CCR, and was brought to two races of 2012, where it DNF (Sebring) and DNS, (Daytona), with reliability issues. CCR is a series that stresses the preservation of the cars, and the fact that it was raced in CCR is by no means a negative, but the description is misleading.

Also OP says " no crashes, no "offs" or any damage at all." This is also slightly inaccurate. The car had a minor car to car incident in a race in Monticello in 2011. It was very minor, and no big deal at all, yet I've not heard of a 430 challenge car in years that's never been raced or had any damage at all." None of this inaccurate puffery should be necessary or take away from an excellent car. Its unnecessary to suggest a car has never been raced or touched in order to covey an excellent car such as this appears to be. The car was owned by an extremely good owner who spared no expense on it, and I am sure any issues were corrected. Despite the correction here, I understand this to be an great car, (2009s are the last year), and I am glad the car has gone to another very good owner.

My very strong recommendation with this car is that the ECU be returned to stock if it has not been already. Not only is this per the 2014 CCR rules, but we have had a rash of engine failures with modified ECU's which can over-stress and shorten the life of an otherwise reliable and durable engine.

CCR is compiling a database of every challenge car in the US and its history, with the goal to create an unbiased and accurate resource for the historic challenge cars.

Thanks for the clarifications, I was stating what was told to me when I purchased the car from Universal. I did speak to the original owner just recently as he was thinking about buying it back. He nor the shop that took car of it never mentioned anything. It is a great car and the new owner will enjoy it.

Hmm.. Interesting. Someone else just posted about a case where they felt they were misled by Universal. Looks like the thread was closed before the issue was fully flushed out or an indication of resolution could be posted. So unclear what eventually happened however there is a reasonable taste of both sides of the issue.

Here is the link below so people reading can form their own view. IMHO, it is more than a good chance Streetking was simply trusting what he was told at purchase...

Buyer beware of purchasing any race car. These cars do not have a title so no history is available. You have to trust the seller.. I just purchased a challenge car and I didn't trust anyone or anything the seller said. I did look at SW's car. I passed on it.
When my car got delivered. I did not rush to the race track. I took it my racing mechanic and went through the car from top to bottom for two weeks. I found many issues. I fixed them. I set the car up to my driving style.
I suggest anyone purchasing a USED race car do the same.

    Galt-

The issues were addressed, and we kept our word paying for everything we agreed to in referenced thread. There was no "misleading" on our part, other then a poor brake flush on our part...mistakes happen, but not deceit.

Gatorgreg is correct in that it is a great idea for all buyers of "used" race cars to do their own pre track inspections, regardless of who did it prior, as well as having a different shop inspect the car before sale.

In selling "used" race cars, it is the responsibility of selling party to disclose all they know about the car, and what service/inspections they performed, history etc. That doesn't mean 1.) you shouldn't go over car yourself and 2.) the car wont break. I think there are major misconceptions of buyers (especially ones new to Ferrari and racing) that there are no warrantees with race cars once they hit the track.

When we sell any race car, we practice explaining all we know about the car, what it needs etc. The car in this thread just completed COTA with no issues, and Street King gave accurate information on car history etc, as we did when we sold it to him.

Bottom line, triple check everything when buying any race car...never hurts.

Insane things I've done in my life

    1) buy a used race car
    2) buy a used Ferrari race car
    3) buy a "vintage", used, Ferrari race car

half kidding, but these cars by definition are high strung and built for performance, less so for long-term reliability. Plus, they are now getting "old", and like most race cars will end up with some cosmetic and mechanical scars. They will also spend 98% of their lives doing what we all say is bad for cars - i.e. letting them sit in a garage, then run hard.

When you buy any used car, there are things a comprehensive PPI will turn up (so, do a PPI), there are some you cannot see without taking the car down to its last bolt. To that end, a seller who did that before selling now has a "restored" race car and an asking price that probably will prevent the car being sold (or, selling at a loss).

Finding a great shop and spending the money to go through a car and get it running is something you need to budget. I'm guilty of the (usual) sin of "yeah, I know you suggested we change out that F1 actuator, but it costs $XXX, I'd rather just run it until it actually breaks". And then I get irritable when it pops on Day 1 of a 3 day event 1500 miles from home, and the part needs to get shipped from Italy...nobody is happy when that happens.

Having said that, there are many who have survived and thrived buying, maintaining and racing Challenge cars with Pete and Universal. It was a blast and a great experience. No shop is perfect but Pete has been perfect on integrity, there should be no debate on that.

    Just my $0.02

I will buy next race Ferrari or any race car from Pete. I trust him 100% and have no problem believing anything he tells me. He does know his race cars. I'm always looking at different cars and Pete has always given me his unbiased advice even if he wasn't in the deal..

I met SW and Pete while at COTA. Both of them were genuine and interested in how the car was working for me and how I liked it. They continued to offer any kind of advice or help in the future. I was very pleased with their follow-up after the sale.

The car was delivered as represented and I have no concerns at this point. It made it thru 3 days of PBIR and 1 1/2 days of COTA without a hitch. It was also driven by a pro coach and he thought it to be a very strong car as well. The suspension will get tweaked a bit for my preference, but other than that, it was ready to drive "flat out". It needs a few other minor cosmetic and maintenance items addressed, but that's normal after a day at the track.

In the end, it's a Ferrari race car. **** happens. I am very happy and have nothing but positive things to say about SW and Pete during this whole process.

Thanks guys. You have helped make this guy's dream become a reality.

I read this thread and the other closed thread. What is the explnation for the big differences in the selling description then? Streetking says "never raced in CCA" someone else says "raced entire 2011 season and 2 races of 2012." Streetking retorts just going off what Universal told me.

What does Universal have to say about this vast difference?

Maybe Universal is nice, stand up, knowledgeable and as this thread states many times buying a used race car has its risks. However you don't expect misrepresentation to be one of them. The original silo about the major misrepresentation about the cars histroy has never been addressed.

The misunderstanding was we sold car stating "never run in the factory series (ferrari challenge) and streetking made the error stating "never run CCR." There was no misrepresentation, just a mistake by streetking in which series it ran.
