First off, I don't know my Dinos very well. I do know they are beautiful cars. That said, I was bored yesterday and was surfing the net while overseas. I found this 246GTS listed on cars.com for $58,000. I sent in an email inquiry as that's all I could do. No phone number. Anyways, I see today the cars no longer listed. So, please educate me. This car is worth upwards of 250K, right? So obvious scam, or, late husbands car for a deal? Please tell me its a scam so I can sleep better tonight.....

Yes, well past $200K ....and on to $300K, $400K and one recently blew out $500K!

So, I don't think there are any "stupid widows" left out there without internet, and most likely why it's now gone as a listing.

I 'passed" on one here for $60K, as it had a dent and the carpet was scruffy, about 15 years ago!

My 308GTB was $29,500 a month or two later, MUCh more car!
    LOLOLOL!

Funny you say this - back in 1999 I could have gotten a Dino for 80-90kish as well, but I pony up and went for a Testarossa because it was so much more car.

    Got this email yesterday:

Thanks for your interest in our 1973 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS. We are happy to let you know that the Dino is still available for sale, at the price of $58,000.

This Dino is in just awesome overall condition as paint shines beautifully. Super clean inside and out with no evidence of ever being in an accident. It runs and drives fantastic. Engine and transmission are as smooth and quiet as can be. All power equipment is functioning properly. Everything is in proper working order.

    Where are you located?
If you have any questions please feel free to ask..

    Regards,
    Robert Marston

I then did a google search, "Robert Marston Ferrari" and his name came up as a scammer.

    So beware of Robert Marston

I'm not sure anyone ever described a Dino as having a quiet engine.
Maybe Marston puts the same descriptions in for his scam Lexi and Mercs.

    Strange -

It looks like some photos that I took of my old gts a several years ago, before I recovered the dash, rebuilt the engine, and replaced a missing wheel center. I'll have to try to find those photos. I may have taken them in Monterey several years ago.

Me too, in 1997. Walked away from a 72 GTS at $35k because the TR was so much more of a car.

    Another email from him today.........

    Hello Lou,
I would like to thank you for your interest in buying my car and also to clearly some things first of all.
I know it's been advertised in few areas but the car is in Tacoma, WA. I had it advertised through a brokerage company that is why it was posted in several places. Crazy for his commission...I would like to know from the beginning if you are really interested in purchase, so i can stop negotiating with potential buyers.
My final price is $58,600 which includes shipping and insurance and it is not negotiable because the car is in perfect condition.
My time is limited due to my job and I decided to use a 3rd party offered by United SKY (www.united-sky.com). My wife used this service last year in June when she bought a car from Florida. You should know that they will allow you to test drive and inspect the car before paying us. In this way you're not buying something sight unseen. We want to use this service because it offers us peace of mind and it allows us to sell the car in this manner. They will hold and secure your money during the entire transaction and will release the funds to us only after you decide to keep the car. You will get a 7 days inspection period (All this time United SKY holds the money) and if you find the car not to be as I described or you find something wrong with it, you can send it back within the 7 days inspection period, without any costs (on our expense). I'm sure this wont be the case and you will love the car on sight. All documents will be provided on delivery (title, bill of sale signed, manuals, keys, everything you need to register the car under your name).
Please let us know if you have the money available and you are ready to move forward and we'll send you more details about the United SKY process.

I may email him saying my brother is in the area and would like to look at the car. He's there on business. Deals with internet fraud.

Hey! Even better - I'll drive my Dino (in Tacoma as I am typing this) over and take a look at it too! I might be able to drag Synchro and Rynoshark along!!

With Jedi, that would be 4 to 1.

Thanks for the offers guys. Got this email today......

    Lou,
If you are ready to proceed with our transaction, you need to go to the United Sky website (United SKY - Wherever you are, wherever they are United SKY keeps you together !) press the Sign Up button and send us your United Sky ID so we can start the transaction with them. They will ask you for a bank to bank wire transfer as the payment method. They will secure the funds and send us a payment confirmation, so the shipping process will start right away. We can't access the funds until you say so. You will get a 7-day inspection period starting from the day the car arrives at your door. You can have a mechanic perform a detailed inspection. At the end of the inspection period, you need to decide if you want to keep the car or not. If you'll decide to keep it, you need to inform United Sky about your decision, so they can release the funds to us. If for any reason you will decide to send the car back, you just need to let United Sky know and they will refund you in no time.
Please do not hesitate to ask if you have additional questions about the United Sky process or the vehicle as well.

    Regards,
    Robert Marston

Anyways, there's obviously no car as I suspected all along.

    Thanks again for the offers.

So HAVE SOME FUN!!! Tell him you have a friend in Tacoma (me) who would like to
just come and see the car FIRST, before contacting United SKY. Tell him your friend
just wants to verify the car in the city he said it was - Tacoma, WA - and it's no
big thing - Dave is happy to come at least verify it exists and is real and all that.

Just curious to see his dodge on this one....

And if it really IS in Tacoma, WA (highly unlikely) - I'll at least drive by the address
he gives you and report what is actually there.

Happy to do it.... right where I live!

Yeah, that's what I did. And that was his response. Apparently I can't see the car without paying for it first.
