Need opinions here if i'm in the wrong or right!!! I had a PPI on a car done yesterday afternoon and received the results late last night. I called to owner today around 2pm to ask a few questions about the car and he said he was going to get back to me with some answers and I said I would let him no ASAP. Less the 3 hours later I get an email saying he just sold the car!!! And I'm out $350.00 on a wasted PPI. One would assume that the proper thing to do is let someone know that their is another potential buyer around the corner, and not just say that he has other people interested. I was only a phone call away!!! In my opinion, this was a crap thing to do and people should treat other people with more respect and courtesy. I understand the car needs to be sold, but not giving someone enough time to read the PPI and selling the car is ridiculous and an a**hole move!!! VENTING< VENTING< VENTING!!!!!! THIS IS BEYOND BULLSH*T and something I would expect from a sleazy car sales man!!
Dude that really does suck!! He should have had the courtesy to let you know ahead of time that he might have other serious buyers. Sorry.
Yes you were screwed by an individual that has no empathy. A sociopath. It could have been worse as these types are capable of much worse. I feel your pain. Narcissistic sociopath: sociopath[ soh-see-uh-path, soh-shee- ] noun [Psychiatry.] 1. a person with a psychopathic personality whose behavior is antisocial, often criminal, and who lacks a sense of moral responsibility or social conscience. I'd be pissed too. The car business is cut throat but that doesn't make it right. What car was it just out of curiosity.
On another note, your name is not that common here but I have a friend with the same last name as yours. Do you have any relatives living in TN?
Don't feel to bad a few years ago I was flying to the west coast to look at a used 550 at a well know ferrari dealership (from the east coast) bought the ticket and got to phoenix and got an email as I was changing flights that the car was sold.... kinda a lousy deal .. he knew I was coming we had agreed on a price etc..and he sold it while I was traveling *** happens.... but I ended up with a better car...
Truly sucks! Per chance, did you get to see the car personally? Reason that I ask is because I've learned never to do a remote purchase again unless it's through a highly reputable person/company. No PPI or nothing until I see the car first. Know the type... and deal with them on a regular basis.
I have no clue where I have relatives. I kinda grew up not knowing about my family history. But see if they have family in Massachusetts or if they have family in the Lezajsk Poland area. As I would like to meet some family one day!
Didn't get a chance to see it in Person! I have 2 young boys (1.5yrs & 3 Yrs) so the ability to get away is limited, but I have gotten great help from this board and even had offers from people to take a look at some cars for me.... so I still have some faith in people. I'm actually going to be taking a look at Mike308gts 1979 GTS.
Sux. Trust is overrated these days. If I liked a car enough to spring for a PPI I'd get a signed agreement contingent on a successful inspection scured with a deposit. Depending who did the PPI you might get some rhythm from them in the form of a discount next time around.
Put urself in his shoes.... He could have had a cash buyer take the car on site Delaying to check with you could have cost him the deal Lot of tire-kickers have ruined the car sales business....I have wasted entire Sat, received hate filled voice-messages and been near swindled It's a Ferrari not a Kia; you hit the bid or lose the trade
Perhaps the car was sold fast before you uncovered issues that he didn't want to address. Or, he simply sold the car. Kind of stinks but I had kind of the same thing happen to me, but I refused to buy the car after the PPI so lost the cost of the PPI. I just look at it as a learning experience and the lost PPI money was a good investment to avoid a problem child of a car.
Call him out if he's an fchatter I would go to his house, and bust his balls until I got my $350 worth of annoying him in person. I know....I need a new hobby. Go back and reread his post. He didn't even have the next day to get the ppi report to evaluate.....the guy could have called and told him.
It is what it is.... I'm sure i'll find something better. It was a 1980 GTS and I would rather a carb model or QV.
I was the first to answer an ad. It passed the eyeball test and appeared to be a very good 308. I negotiated a price pending a successful PPI, and put a deposit down immediately. Glad I did because the seller had two full price offers, sight unseen, the very next day. He honored our agreement though, because of the deposit. It's business, but we've become good friends since. That's what I did as well. The car never left the PPI shop. When it passed I went up and reviewed the recommended work and then dropped off the balance with the ex-owner. When you find the right one you've got to get it done without delay.
What questions did you ask him about the PPI? Who knows...Maybe he didn't sell the car, and just lied to you because he doesn't want to come clean about what you uncovered. Either way, he's a weasel, and you're better off in the long run for not buying the car.
I would want to know if the information regarding the PPi you paid for was shared with the other person. I would call the seller and ask to be reimbursed for my PPI. No one does a PPI without the intent to purchase, based on the PPI information. A crappy thing to do on the sellers part. Private sale or Dealer? On a another note, if the person selling acted this way maybe that is the way the car was cared for also and you did not miss out on anything. I'm sure you will find another car.
Sucks but bottom line guy with cash wins. People here think the ppi is critical when in fact they can tell very little. People who do not know what they are buying move slow. If you move slow sometimes you loose.
I think you are coming out ahead here and just don't realize it. That $350 could have been a total piece of **** car that a $350 ppi can't spot and you would have wished you never brought it home. Judging from the seller's actions, how can you even trust the car was worth it? Some things happen for a reason and I think you are going to end up a lot happier in the end with a much better car.
meh, I have paid for PPI's and walked away from the cars, only to see them sold and the new owner is pissing and moaning about the issues the "old car" has. Nobody wants to buy a turd, and what happened seems like it could have been avoided with a phone call. But $350.00 to avoid a car with issues is a cheap way to dodge a bullet, unless the car was a cheap project, which usually is sold with no PPI anyway. These cars are not getting any younger, but they did make just enough of them that we all should be able to find one when the time is right. 80 GTSi has sodium filled valves anyway. Time for head gaskets and a valve job if its a long term keeper.
