Jack Brabham (3xWDC from the 60s) use to say "win at the slowest possible speed" , but I get ticked off with this "slow down now"at the start of the "race"

I think the racing is better than it has been for some years and the engines haven't turned out to be the grenades everyone thought they wee going to be

Actually there are better passing opportunities at Spa and Monza than at the newer tracks.

I'm not and advocate of easy passing. f1 should be difficult. The problem is that F1 has decided that the fans want more passing and instituted artifices to facilitate it. To overcome the built in deficiencies in the Tilke TV tracks.

    Agreed.
The diference is that historically the new technology was applied to make the cars faster. Now the tech is being instituted to suit other agendas.

Everything comes to an end sooner or later. Watching what is happening to F1 reminds me of watching my buddy die of cancer a couple of years ago. It very hard to accept but its happening and we must move on.

The only drama and intrigue is trying to figure out which driver might actually be trying to go fast at any given time. Ugh.

Nothing new: same thing happened when they outlawed the skirts in the early eighties

Just faster cars is no longer the first priority since then

I knew there was a reason I hated the brakes in a Prius. They are the worst!

But it's still hydraulic in the Prius. The fly by wire in F1 cars is electric. The day they put in all electrically controlled brakes is the day the lawyers will be ready for a class action lawsuit.

They outlawed skirts because they were dangerous.

The calipers are electric on an F1 car? I did not know that! Who says I'm too old to learn.

p.s. given time, you get used to the brakes in a Prius. They're just fine.

I could be wrong, but I don't think so..... They remain hydraulic, but their actuation and pressure levels are electronically controlled. How much braking is done via brake pad/disk interaction & how much is done by the generator depends (at least partly) on the state of charge of the batteries.

    I think. ;)

    Cheers,
    Ian

Skirts weren't dangerous but the cars got too fast for the tracks.

Which goes to show that raw speed was no longer the only goal.

Today's cars could outrun last years with softer tires but speed is not the only goal anymore.

Little of a chicken & egg there IMO. ;) They got too fast because the skirts were working so well. If one had 'stuck up', and it happened a few times, the guy would hit the wall with barely reduced velocity. And the tracks weren't as safe back then either.....

Indeed. They may also need a little more D/F, but your point is valid. They'll get quicker over time (& hopefully get to sound better too!), but then they'll have to tweak the rules to slow 'em down again..... Just the way it goes.

    Cheers,
    Ian

They were banned in the name of safety. I can accept safety as a valid goal that may(temporarily)compromise speed.
    The rest is BS.

So...What's the problem with this year's formula then? The engines are more powerful and the cars were slowed down with reduced aero and harder tires for safety reasons. They'd be quicker than last year all the rest the same.

The changes haven't been made for safety. There's little in the new spec that improves safety. Not the new motors, not the new rubber, not the new lifetime numbers and certainly not the double points.

No, the rest is a financial reality on which the sport is based.

He's now been corrected at least twice on exactly which car Koby is driving...... Not to mention a couple of Florians (excellent) posts on the subject - That they are indeed 'in testing' with this technology.

    Cheers,
    Ian
PS - I also have a sneaking suspicion that you already knew they remain hydraulic, but were just setting it up..... ;)

Here is an idea. If you are tired of the "Repetitious bellyaching thread" then don't click on a thread that says F1 is ruined! But no you took the time to click on a thread that you were "tired" of seeing and then continue to take the time to make a Totally Usless comment. Here is an idea if you don't like reading a "repetitive post" then DON'T CLICK ON IT AND THEN CONTINUE POST ON IT AND KEEP IT ALIVE!

It is funny how the people with the most to say about my post have posted the most comments on said post!

This is not to say I am upset at people that disagree with my assessment of the new F1 rules. I respect those people and was actually looking for someone with another perspective to help me appreciate the races again. But, to tell me that I should not even make a post. Then continue to post over and over on it is idiotic!

To those that were annoyed at me even making a post. Way to make this a great and welcoming community for Ferrari Fans!
