Massa made it clear at Ferrari before he left he was out for himself. Given that Im sure Williams knew he would feel the same there. Sure he is part of the team but that idiocy wont help his trust in the team given the situation was not going to change one bit if Val passed him. Oh and then give the spot back to Massa. Frankly insulting to BOTH drivers.

Now even more so I would think he is going to look after himself further given the sheer utter stupidity of the radio messages heard in Sepang. And why not. If Val wants to pass go for it. Let them race. If Felipe gets passed so be it. Williams must ensure have a much better case next time they attempt this. This time the entire stupid mess was self generated on the pit wall. No question.

I'll admit that I was surprised when I read it in Pitpass but it makes sense.

I'm no Massa fan, far from it, but what the team asked him to do was horrible.
Is Bottas a WDC contender in this car ?
If not Williams is going for constructor points and they get the same no matter which order they finish in.
With this idiotic request all they are doing is extinguishing whatever flame is left in Massa.

Massa did well (I cant believe I just typed that).

PS I dont see why Bottas couldn't pass him on his own with the mega DRS this year.

Williams was wrong for making the order and Massa was wrong for not following the order.

Williams was wrong for hiring Massa in the first place… It's not Massa's fault - he's just doing what he does (which isn't very much).

If they're going to cut him off at the knees this quickly you have to wonder why Willaims signed him in the first place.

    Mmmmmm.... no and yes.

If you were the team manager and you saw the data that Massa had no chance and the guy behind him had some chance -- and did nothing -- I'm not sure the team owner would be too happy to hear your excuse that you didn't want to hurt Massa's feelings.

I have a feeling that if Massa did that to Enzo Ferrari, Massa might be looking for a new drive today.

I read the amount somewhere. It makes a difference to a strapped-for-cash team like Williams.

    To be sure.
    The lesson to be taken?
Drivers should be sure that they control funding hold backs from "their" sponsors.

    I agree with this:

Team orders, stupid rules, ugly cars, and horrible engines are what has all but ruined F1. I understand team orders but if VB was man enough he would have passed him but he was not….. Actually Enzo Ferrari intentionally pitted his drivers against each other to force them to perform. This is something that brought him criticism but also brought out the best and worst in his drivers……...

Again, you argue two different things.

Massa did not do this to "change" the way the team runs. The rules are set up so that the team's points for the year (THE TEAM'S POINTS -- not Massa's) gets them money.

You can argue the rule is wrong and leads to this kind of crap. But, that's not what Massa was fighting against.

Massa just didn't like his boss telling him what to do. He thought he knew better. Well, maybe he did -- but he's not the boss.

Massa was not out to shed light on team orders in some grand statement.

He just didn't like the orders and chose to ignore them because it didn't fit HIS agenda of finishing ahead of his team mate.

As to Enzo Ferrari, if Massa pulled this on him (ignoring team orders) he'd be out of a job today.

You ever think that if the communication wasn't piped through the TV broadcast, so many of these discussions would take a different turn?

If Massa was slower, Bottas should be able to pass him on his own.

Team orders will exist forever. Drivers can choose to accept the consequences of not obeying them - whether they be positive or negative ones.

massa sucked badly, he should have get the job done on button but instead he didn't and found himself in a "bottas is faster than you" situation

So, you're saying if we don't know something's going on within the team nothing will matter?

That's kinda like saying that if there's a criminal in your house and you don't know it, nothing is going to be stolen.

.....and Bottas had 56 laps and did what??? NOTHING. When he passes Felipe it will matter. The team even more idiotic for thinking they had a good plan. The paddock dont think the team should have ever set this in motion. The sucked badly piece is Williams. Massa ignored a BAD team order, stupid and idiotic it was. Good for him!

What in your view is "a bad team order"? One where the team manager knows what's best for the team or the driver who only thinks for himself?

Massa was being selfish. He just wanted to finish ahead even though he was slowing up his teammate.

Bottas started from 18th place after a penalty. Then he was on Massa's azz at the end of the race.

You tell me who was faster.
