I always thought that driving gloves were a joke. Untill I went on the track. This is my second pair that I got in Italy on a recent trip.
Would love to see what you guys have out there. Please post pics.

I have a pair of gloves that I bought from AutoZone or Wal-Mart that arent true driving gloves. I just use them as an insulator on super hot days so I dont burn my hand on the chrome shifter knob.

"Gloves serve a purpose, say in golf, why not in a special car?"

As you said, it's personal. I see no use in them at all for normal driving, just as I see no need for nomex suits or driving shoes. If you do find them useful/comfortable/helpful in using the steering wheel, that's great.

When I see someone in a Ferrari wearing any of that stuff, I instantly think "poser" but, OTOH, owning a Ferrari is "posing" anyway so I'm posing too! :)

Real driving gloves are not a joke, and if you're driving on a track you need real gloves not those pansy leather thongs. :D Note the burn mark from getting too close to the header.

I totally agree re using gloves for racing…as well as nomex and shoes and I still own that stuff from back when I used it. But all any of it would be to me driving on the street is uncomfortable.

Back in 85 when I bought my car my then girl friend at the time gave me a pair of driving gloves. I thanked her for being so thoughtful. We then when out to return them and bought a nice bottle of wine and celebrated with naked hands, and bodies.

I've got Simpson nomex gloves for driving at the track. Would never consider wearing them on the street. Those leather driving gloves just seem like an affectation to me. But I guess if you have abnormally sweaty hands then it would be OK. Then again, I really don't care about what other dudes wear. If it makes you happy, then I'm happy for you.

My kids bought me a pair of 1950s style leather gloves last year. They've been handy in a few places; when hands are coated with sunscreen (nasty stuff on leather steering wheels) and go-karting where the rough plastic steering wheel causes blisters.

(Hi Jeff328, hope all is well.)

I've got a pair of those too - never thought of using them as driving gloves though.

The only times I use mine are on super hot days when the shifter knob is entirely too hot to handle. I could change it, but I like it.

Gloves arrived today, look a little something but feel so good. Had to get out and drive, low 50's, no top, heat up and gloves on. Hands never felt better on the wheel or the shift, comfort and control on a new level, actually improved over all experience. Stopped to chat with a fan of the car in Putney, Vt. apologized for the gloves, he said, "not at all, quite appropriate".

Somehow the car and gloves go together.

If we were trying to make a good impression; we would not drive a Ferrari.

But the GMT Master's not required, right? I'd hate to think I have to get one of those too… :)

I just use the clock in the car. :(
