really? how come a driver 10 times better than him didn´t win it? F 2008 was good all right, sometimes better, sometimes worst than Lewis Mclaren, if it hadn´t been for pure incompetence from Ferrari pits, Massa would have walked away with the title before Brazil.......in a different way, the 2010 car was not the best, but in the hands of Shumacher or Kimi would most probably had been world champion.
Who is that driver? Races Wins Poles Fastest laps 18 8 8 13 Races Wins Poles Fastest laps 17 9 9 12 The F2008 v F2007 comparison...
i don't get your point comparing the f2007 with the f2008....what as that got to do with comparing Massa to Rubens?
Well, the F2007 was the last car to bring us the titles. The F2008 was a solid car as well, just showing you the stats. It would have won, if Rubens were at the wheel (Silverstone 2008 comes to mind). However, Ferrari shot themselves in the foot, retirement for Massa in Hungary and that botched pitstop in Singapore.
Like who? Bringing Brawn back stabilizes the team, which i think what it needs now. When the dream team disbanded, it disbanded suddenly, with only Todt hanging around for a bit before calling it a day. I'm not too sure, but i do recall Brawn wanted a bigger position in Ferrari. He didn;t get it, he left for fishing, and came back to Honda.
Today Mercedes best lap was 1:34:1 during their 46 lap test session and Ferrari did 1:37:9 during 12 laps test session. Mercedes looks very fast...
Like who? Well, it's up to Ferrari to send its talent spotters in search of a yet unknown talented engineer. He is out there somewhere. I don't think that rehiring someone so many years later is a wise solution; however talented some people are, they get older and their creativity and magic touch soon fade away.
As i said previously, Massa was 10 times better than Rubens....Rubens had title winning cars at his disposal several years...he scored half the points Shumy did with them....in some of those years he didn't even come close to be vice champion..... The Massa from 2007 until 2009 accident was on a diferent level...he was only 1 point behind Kimi in Monza 2007, where his car broke (when he was in front of Kimi) and only than Ferrari asked him to play second to Kimi, ultimutly ofering him the win and the title in Brazil....2008 he clearly outscored Kimi (rubens would not have done that in a million years).....once again someone speaks about Silverstone 2008...why? Do you pefer to continue to ignore the facts? Wich are that Ferrari screwd massa in practice miscalculating the time for leting him go and leaving him with a very bad position for the start...that Ferrari predicted good weather for the race, thus leaving massa to set up his car for completly dry conditions..when no one else did it..but of course, since he was so far back he had to take a gamble....it simple did't pay off....it´s clear to anyone since the first corners that his car was completly undrivable, and unlesse it was Gilles or Peterson driving it, few would have done any better...Massa display at the Nurburgring that year, his batle with Kubica in Fuji or at Monaco and Brazil next year during the rain are more than enough to prove he's actualy a very solid driver(even if not a supergifted driver) under such poor conditions.
@pitlanetalk 15m Ferrari end 2nd day of testing early due to broken chassis. Only 12 laps for Alonso. Strange thing is that he used Raikkonen's chassis. Great!
In my opinion, there are many factors influencing how Ferrari is doing. First is the car itself. Simple and easy they got the design wrong with all the new rules. It doesn't matter who the driver of the car is, if the car is slower and not as agile it doesn't matter. This is F1 where even the smallest difference result in faster times, and you can see this with Mercedes and the compressor design they implemented. Now if all else were equal, we could look at the drivers themselves but its' like a hall of fame, hiesman trophy quarterback that has a really bad offensive line. No matter how good he may be, he can't make any plays without the protection he needs. And that is what is happening here, you can blame management, drivers, etc. but the simple fat is the design of the car is wrong and the car is just too slow. Don't think Ferrari will be able to fix this at least this year.
Yep, and they haven't had a great tech team for awhile now at least in terms of chassis development, and now the engine stinks too. All these upgrades that are coming May close the gap but I don't think they will win a race this year. Major changes for Ferrari in the second half of the year IMHO if not before.
That is the obvious cause of the team's lack of performance. No point blaming the drivers or Dominicali; it's the technical team which is at fault. Ferrari should cut its loses and start work on the 2015 chassis AND engine now!!
Kimi ran his race with the chassis broken on Friday. I bet Fonzie wanted to try and possibly copy the mods Kimi requested and they found this out. It's clear they're not equally treated, Ferrari always has a number 1 and maybe rightly so
Come to think of it, Mauro Forghieri should be still available, and is used to reversals of situation... I fully agree: time to spot a new talent. Rgds
that's new? from Enzo's very first years he regarded his production cars as the financial basis to support the racing Scuderia.
It would be one thing if Ferrari was dominant over the last few years but came up short this year with the new rule changes. But the Ferrari F1 car has been a dog for YEARS. It's time to make some changes to the technical team starting with Domenicali. -F
We're just not going to agree here... but Alonso if he is going to lead a team... then needs to be positive and if he has nothing good to say - then say nothing, and keep everyone motivated. I think he gets focused on grass is greener... and starts to apply pressure in the press instead of inside the team.... if you think about it - everywhere he's been there as been controversey... Bennatton, McLaren & Ferrari... I'll exclude Minardi... On Chilton - regardless of being a pay driver or not - he has the chops... in my opinion.. he's done well for being so young. Bianchi et al are pay guys as well... frankly most of the grid has money behind them...
There hasn't been any sack Alonso talk for awhile so I guess it was time for that to finally happen on Ferrarichat. I say sack Alonso because his driving has made the Ferrari not look nearly as bad (until now) as it really has been. If you want changes, put two Massas back behind the wheel and the results will get you your changes. This is ridiculous. Give Fernando a good car and he'll get the results. That won't always be the case I agree, but right now there is so much wrong at Ferrari that the drivers shouldn't even be close to the top of the list.
