Are you referring to the leather that matches the interior shifter boot?
below that is a circular rubber accordion type boot that covers up the hole in transmission

Yes the leather portion which has a round hole at the top. On mine they've sewn a think piece of leather serving as a grommet which is sized somewhat larger than the shift stick, a lot larger perhaps due to age. Many times a boot like this has a rubber grommet sewn in there to effect as tight seal. I thought perhaps mine was missing?

It's not really needed due to the complete rubber boot underneath.

    I just wondered.

Do you have a photo of what your entire leather shift boot looks like?

Mine is so tired looking, kind of like Joans River's face ...

Well that was my first thought but then I saw the sign on the hotel ... ?

But France makes a lot more sense than Ecuador.

The rubber boot/bellow underneath is supposed to stick up through the leather in the center. The opening in my boot/bellow/accordion is a little too large too, so I added (glued in) a short rubber hose as well to fill the gap.

    I've never noticed this detail.

    Thanks Laust.

That's going to be difficult to pull off with the car not at the interior shop. Hmmmm.

Has anyone got a picture of this with the actual rubber boot protruding through the top of the leather cover?

    Sounds like a VLG question!

I found this picture on the net, and I am pretty sure you are right and this is the Hotel Parigi in Sanremo.

Now you do, sort of ...

    https://www.flickr.com/photos/nashboro/9700243035/in/set-72157633080416100/

Your boot is different than mine. Yours appears to have section seams all the way to the top like a cut piece of chocolate pie!

With mine those sections start 2-3" below the top so that there is a circle of uncut leather at the top. Hmmmm.

Here's a photo of Nash Bapasola's shift boot. His interior has the same colours as mine but with a black top to the dash. I think probably that solid portion dips down inside the rest of the leather boot and slips over the top of the rubber boot and is secured there by a lip on the boot? Just as Laust described.

Then mine is most likely not historically correct . I remember instructing my interiors guy not to give it the mage droopy foreskin of yesteryear.

Well even if that isn't the original color it still looks very nice IMHO.

I'd also double check that. Mistakes do get made. If it has been repainted you should be able to find such evidence if you dig a bit.

The license plate on the back of the car on the right is definitely Italian, in that era they were almost square, black with white characters

That car is well know here in the USA. It was up for sale several times last year on eBay.

It apparently goes like hell. The photos reveal that it required some cosmetic work when I last looked. I think they located the original seats too. I was hoping someone would buy it last year and bring it to the Vintage Lamborghini Rally in Billings MT. The previous owner Jack Riddell owned when it had the 4L motor and he knows the the guy who had all the work done on it. He says it's all first class mechanical work.

With that huger bulge in the hood it's darn near qualified for the periscopo treatment!
But the loud pedal in that car must be fantastic.

Now THAT would have been quite a car to have at last year's Giro event. You'd have been shunned and gawked over simultaneously. ;)

I hope it stays in the USA.

A bit disappointing to see that they added a rear grill. Some people still think that all Espada with the early dash were equipped with the rear grill. I'm sure this one was delivered without the rear grill.
