i finally got the battery issue sorted on the cs, so i buttoned it all up early this morning and went for spin. saturday mornings are prime time for dads driving their kids and wives to all of their activities, shopping, etc etc.

and the look i am talking about is when the guy in the minivan spots you in your sportscar (can be anything really), and there is that moment that you can see he is thinking:

'damn! here i sit in this ****ing minivan with screaming kids and demanding wife, driving to walmart/little league/mother in laws etc etc and this lucky mofo is out enjoying life like i used to ! '

and then he either glares daggers, gives you the finger, or just turns up the radio. its not that i take that much pleasure in this moment, but i always chuckle a little bit.

take some time out for yourselves guys and drive your toys !

I'm driving the in-laws about in my MINI (with rattling suspension) this weekend.

    I think I'll show you a digit. ;)

    All the best,
    Andrew.

I brought great grandma out yesterday to stay with us for a couple days. Both kids have soccer games this morning.

I'm headed to the FCA-MAR Spring Thaw with 100 other Ferraris :D

Haha, I'll be slumming it in our fourth-car, the minivan, all weekend even though it's gonna be great weather. Taking the family on a small weekend road trip, which I can't do in the 360.

Having a 360 at home, and an M5 to use as DD really gets me through the minivan drives. But, whenever I'm driving the minivan, I never give guys "the look." Probably because I've got an F car of my own!

There are few cars that I hold with such contempt as minivans. :)

But I do love it when you get that look.

Wait - you say you always chuckle, but don't take much pleasure in the moment? Don't soft-sell it man; it is apparent that you love it! :)

I get this both with my Ferrari and my Beemers. Back in the late 90's/early 2000's I had a red BMW K1200RS, and almost invariably, when I stopped at a rest area, I'd come out to some guy with a minivan, wife, and three kids just looking longingly at my bike. Now with a red Ferrari, just multiply that by 100.

Minivan. Best scam of the century. Sure you can put the wife and kids in one. Everything else has to go on the roof. At least the VW bus had character. ;)

I love that look. Best part is when the guy is with his wife and kids and spends just a few seconds to long starring at the car. It's like if he looked to long at a pretty girl who's not the wife. You know the next conversation they have which usually isn't a good one, and probably doesn't get him any closer to a Ferrari.

Married no kids but once we have kiddos I will never ever buy a minivan.

I get that look more often when I'm doing the same thing as minivan guy: carting my kid around in the back seats to school or an event. I think it makes them more unhappy when my daughter smiles big and waves (with all the enthusiasm an 8 yr-old has. giant wave, giant smile) … I almost got a custom plate that said "minivan"

Threads like this make me cringe.....I don't want someone to feel bad about their life just because I spent 9 years saving up for a first exotic.....

Their dissatisfaction has nothing to do with your car but it is no fun to be part of someone else's angst.

I bought my F so I would never be the guy in the minivan thinking "I should have done it when I could..." Now that I did it, I can be mini-van guy and not give the Ferrari guys "the look" but a thumbs up.

Even though I always had nice cars, I still admire beautiful cars all the time (some are expensive and exotic, and others are just really nice examples of "regular" cars). It doesn't matter what I'm driving at the time when I spot it. If I'm not in my Ferrari, the guy has that "poor sucker" look when he looks at me while I'm checking his car out, which makes me chuckle inside. If I'm driving the Ferrari while I check out a car "lesser" (or perceived to be lesser) than mine, they are confused as to why I'm checking THEIR car out and giving them a thumbs up. I swear, I can't win!

Beware, that's exactly what I said. Then I did the math and decided it's a better call to make my life easier. It's the fourth car and it sits outside, it does less than 10k miles per year, and is the only car we have which is equipped with a DVD player and sliding doors...

And with the rear seats stowed, we can fit plenty of **** in the luggage area.

Not that I'm defending minvans. I hate the ******** thing. But, it's a necessary evil in my life at this point. Today, on a road trip back home from Indianapolis, my wife goes, and I'm not ****ting you: "I can't imagine our lives without this great minivan." I just shrugged and mumbled something profane under my breath. She loves the damn thing, it's her second car...

Unless you have 3 kids and more, I don't see the need for a minivan. My sister and I grew up with BMW 5 series and we were fine going around or traveling through Europe. I have one kid atm. We plan to have 2 at some point and no minivan.

I have 3 kids and thank god my wife also could not bear the ideal of a minivan, so we opted for a 7 pass Land Rover and it works perfect for us and three kids under the age of 6, But i was once that guy who looked at F car owners and dreamed of the day I could be one, and now I am :)

I used to get that look from minivan dad while riding my sport bike , it was always sad and awkward.

And what I'm trying to say is that the minivan dad isn't always a sad pathetic bastard. I do a few hours behind the wheel of the minivan every few months. That's it. For the rest of the time, the nanny drives it. My wife only drives it if for some reason her primary DD isn't an option (service or repair usually).

Looked into the SUV route, but the minivan was the newer, cheaper option.

Don't always pity the minivan driver! I don't want any of that from you guys!! :)

Edit: I am by no means a typical minivan driving guy...

We're not talking about all minivan dads - I'm sure most are happy with their families and the decisions they've made - It's just the ones who seem like crushed spirits we're talking about.

    Cheers,

    George
