S D will be seen driving a Mclaren P 1 next week with a 21yr old grid girl in the passenger seat. Grinning from ear to ear.. Lol
Ultimately, there will be no change in the results for 2014. Vettel third in the standings by year's end, Fred winning the battling with Desi for fourth, if we're lucky.
I wish you were wrong, but you're right. There is a larger restructuring that needs to take place and cutting one head off the hydra and thinking it will have a change of heart is just wishful thinking. No matter how smart the single new head may be.
It's pretty hard not to make a change when ferrari have under delivered for the last number of seasons. Hopefully it will be the start of a new era of domination.
Anyone can sell a sought after brand like Ferrari but we are talking F1 not the car division. Its in a hole!!
I would imagine the engine team at Ferrari are really demoralized at the moment. The problem they had to deal with was they had to develop an entirely new powertrain in isolation, with no benchmark to go on. They had no idea how the opposition were (out)performing owing to testing rules, until it was too late. Its not only a management issue. Ferrari need to be less parochial. On their road and race cars they will source as many components and staffing from Italy. Mercedes dont have this attitude and have benefited. They bought out Ilmor, who were already a leading light in F1 engines, then grew the Brixworth facility into a world-beater. There is another UK engine supplier who are looking for more funding, and have already done some work on the current F1 formula, ie Cosworth. Maybe an option. Then, establishing a tech centre for the chassis in Northamptonshire would enable them to draw on a big talent pool, maybe even including Newey. They have had a UK technical centre before so it wouldnt be a first.
And don´t you remember how badly that worked? One of the first things that the now revered Jean Todt did was getting all the staff in the same place. And he got some "decent" results with that method. Mercedes has its F1 team in England because it´s not a real Mercedes F1 team: they bought the already existing ex-BAR/ex-Honda team.
They bought two separate operations, Ilmor Engineering. and later, the ex-Honda team and there was originally no connection between the two at all. Historically virtually all teams have had separate engine and chassis operations. As in Red Bull and Renault, different countries. OK less successful thus far this year but they will get there. The issue Ferrari currently have is mainly engine-related. Keeping all engine development in Italy is not necessarily the best way forward. To go into more detail, For example, Ferrari will automatically go to Manetti Marrelli for the MGUs and all engine electronics etc. I dont know if they have some kind of contract with them. Mercedes/Ilmor will look around for components worldwide and if they cant find something suitable they will design their own or have another company (which would usually be in the UK but doesnt have to be) design for them. By saying that the Mercedes team are "Not a real Mercedes team" this would apply to every other team apart from Ferrari as they are the only team where the owning brand is integral with the team. This approach no longer appears to be the best one.
I can´t see the logic. You should remember that the winner engine of the last 4 championships was made in France and that the Mercedes power unit is built with input from Mercedes guys in Germany. And they make it that way for practical reasons: if the Renault engine factory is already in France it doesn´t make much sense moving everything to another place to start from zero.
400 million Lira maybe. The guy has money but certainly not 400m. Yup. And arguably LdM is in part responsible for being where we are now: Fed up with Jean Todt being awesome, he wanted Kimi in for 2007. MS didn't want it, but it was a done deal, so the choice was up to MS to either retire or take Kimi on. We all know what happened. The dream team all left, the evolution from the 2006 cars where good enough in 2007 and 08 and since then the team hasn't done anything special. John Barnard could've been part of the issue why Ferrari wasn't as good. Technology has come a long, long way in 20 years, especially in the from of high speed internet, making it possible to actually have a station in the UK where stuff is designed. Send the CAD file to Italy, where it's immediately built and tested and so on. Of course it's just simpler if the head designer is where all the workers are in the end.
Actually Todt´s first option to lead the technical team he wanted to build at Maranello was Barnard. But Barnard insisted on doing things his way, and that was the end of the story. I guess that many things are made through internet as nobody builds an entire car and everything can be subcontracted. But as you say: why not choosing the simpler solution?
Come on, William: you know perfectly well that these periods of crisis are part of the reason why we love the Scuderia so much; I didn't like the "Todt's steamroller period" that much, even if I must admit that I admire what he has done: it was way to efficient... I suspect that "Il grande vecchio" would have been in his element right now: banning Forghieri in an obscure office with the secret mission of building the brand new car, just as he did in 1973...those were the days... Rgds
Why were the company crippled with debts then when he took over if ANYONE can sell Ferrari? 8 more world championships under LdM has added to the brand as have the cars and the brand building that has followed. To downplay the most profitable year in the company's history is ridiculous. I suppose no logic can stop a good old fashioned lynch mob.
Lynchmob LOL! The roadcars are great. Not so much the F1. Ferrrari had 2+years on the new motor and we are worse off than last year. Keep worshipping LdM. I wont he needs to go. Fresh blood, thinking etc is needed. Enough of his cheerleading and hair flicks on camera. Not impressed.

From RAI Sport 2 last night, it was said that Marchionne met with LdM in the past two weeks and the decision was made re SD. Its an old Italian saying that one never gives up the seat (or Poltrona). Some of us expect RB to be back. Mattiacci is a team leader, good at organization, and getting people to work hard. He is an ally of Marchionne. Fiat needs a Ferrari vincente. Its obvious that SD didn't have the ability to choose technology for a winning car, and he wasn't capable of calling the changes of tactical strategy needed on race day. Let's hope la Scuderia returns to winning ways. They have the drivers, a new wind tunnel that correlates wtih the Toyota tunnel in Koeln. Engines need more electrical power. Watch this space.
