    For those interested in just how good the Speciale is, consider this fact witnessed 2 days ago ;

    During the hugely successful Ferrari Racing Days in Sydney last weekend, the safety car for both Asian Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli races did sponsor rides during the weekend. That is it had a decent driver with a passenger, the Speciale was a stock car, Pilot Sport Cup 2 rubber, no tricks, no black magic.

    The Speciale put in consistent lap times around the 3.93km 11 turn circuit of 1 min 38 sec, to put this into context with the Challenge cars in race trim, the mid field guys were doing 1 min 38secs, okay these are suppose to be " gentlemen drivers" but there were some heavy passengers enjoying passenger rides in the Speciale with road tyres versus the Challenge cars with the newly Evo spec and massive rear wing and slick tyres.

    The Speciale with proper tyre pressure monitoring would have shaved another 2 seconds off that 1.38!!

    That says a lot about the performance of this car and how the goal posts keep moving.

    You can't compare these two cars, 458 CH is just another league.

    At Fiorano Track (Ferrari Test Track, small) a 458 CH is 7 seconds faster than
    a Speciale !

    I'm not comparing them, one is a stripped out race car, the other a track focussed light weight version of the Italia.

    My point is, in the hands of a skilled driving instructor, he was posting similar times to the Challenge guys in the mid field.

    Every stat tells a story.

    Exactly, that's how I read it. I would also say that the official Fiorano lap time was kept 'deliberately' conservative.

    Alternative take: the mid field Challenge drivers are just super super slow compared to a professional driver. Not surprising--most of them did not have the opportunity to grow up racing and are driving cars on the track as a hobby.

    Probably does say more about the challenge drivers than the Speciale.

    I am not sold on the argument that the mid-field of Challenge drivers is full of 'talent-free' gentlemen, even if that were the case, the Speciale had a passenger on board (at times) and was running on road tires and while the driver may have been talented, it wasn't, to my knowledge, Lewis Hamilton nor had it Alonso at the helm...
