While spending the last week driving a friend's 512BBi at his request while he was out of town, I went to fill the gas. When considering the emissions boot on the fuel nozzle, I decided to not risk any damage to the fuel filler cover. Instead I went to raise the engine cover...

    (...see where this is going?...)

The lever snapped off, and I was left with both the broken lever and my jaw in my hand. Thankfully I was able to open it using the pair of T-handle pulls.

From using the search feature, I can find a few suggestions for sources for a replacement lever. T. Rutlands, Eurospares, Ricambi, Ferrparts...

Are there any additional sources for parts for me to consider?

I will make full disclosure to the owner of the 512BBi when he returns to town, who will likely tell me to "not worry about it".
However the Eagle Scout in me wants to get the part replaced ASAP.

Any suggestions or leads to replacement parts?
P/N 50036508, same release lever as the front hatch.

been there. on the bbi you will find that part is a plated pot metal casting. Daniel @ ricambi America has them for sale.

    tell him peter sent you:)

and by the way...that is the proper and safe way to fuel a bb.

i started a thread about this subject about 5 years ago.
this happened to me, and i had a guy fabricate a replacement out of stainless. it was damn expensive or i would have had him replace all of them. but for those of you living in less expensive locales than me, you might want to consider this option. and if you do, i will buy 5 from you ;)

When I told the owner about the broken latch, he said he has broken two more during his ownership. He wants the parts so his aircraft company can look into working up a replacement lever. Perhaps he might combine the levers with the company that produces replacement bezels...

Yep, NASA made one for #19271. The original chromed casting just doesn't do it.

Maybe a problem with embrittlement, when plating?

    Good day Verell,

Are you making the handle as well? I seem to recall you or someone did make a new handle out of metal, etc...

    Cheers,

    Sam

    Hmm,
No haven't made the handles. Would consider making them if there's enough interest. They'd probably be pricy tho, around $100/handle as would have to be custom cast.
