So I was backed into a while back, (parking lot, their fault) and just got my Series Speciale back from the shop. They replaced the cracked rear brake light... Only problem is now it's very clearly been replaced as it doesn't have 20 years of fading.

One on left is old, one on right is new.

Any suggestions on what to do?

Replacing a $3,500 brake light on my own dime does not appeal to me. But I can't help but notice the color difference.

Can the fading on the left one be restored to new?

I seen on another site, a guy buffed his out and made it look new. I would def do that before replacing it! If I can find the link, I will post it.

Polish the old one. You are at an advantage (hard to believe, ouch!) now since you have a Speciale with the cutout grill. Use a headlight kit or wet sand the old one with 1500-2000 grit and follow up with Rubbing compound. Then use your favorite plastic treatment.

I did the plastic headlights on my 2000 Miata with rubbing compound only about 5 years ago and they still look great. I have it covered and garaged most of the time but the cover does wear the lights a little. All it took was 3 coats of rubbing compound to get rid of the hazing and fading. Some people might freak out about UV film but then my do they fade? Just treat it when you are done.

Good luck and so sorry about the damage. I'm going on my first road trip next month and I cringe at the though of parking in a lot or making a rest stop.

Very nice. Thanks for the advice guys. Looks like I'll try buffing it ou this weekend. :)

Only 4 or 5 more mods to go on my ride, and she'll be complete!

    Next on list:
    1: F430 bumper (already ordered)
2: 2nd set of exterior door strakes panels so I can remove them and run more Koenig / F-14 Tomcat style looking.
3: Powder coat air box yellow, red lettering.
4: Ordered, and just waiting on my HD Cam review mirror with full time 1080p recording and integrated backup cam.
5: convex passenger side mirror mod

Anyhow, when I had the car in the shop, I had the front grill interior re sprayed, and the grill soda blasted and powder coated... However, think I might run it naked for a bit... Just the outer grill frame and see if it grows on me. Thoughts on the naked look?

I don't know how good is your insurance company, but you can go back to them and complaint the car look bad/ugly/de-valued with different color tail light. Since its not your fault, I am pretty sure your insurance company will replace the other side with a new one.

You can always buy a used tail lamp and buff both of them out, sell the new one and be ahead of the game

    :)

Love to see what cam you got. want to add one myself
