Would you prefer a Turbo or NA engine on the 458 Successor?

I mean you can add Turbo if you really want it, and I think if the new car comes with it you can also have the Turbo removed.

Only turbo car I care for is the Agera R and ferrari doesn't have that kind of passion. Hopefully Koenigsegg builds a 300k super car but they never will, too much compromise.

 

I don't think it works that way . . .

(You can't "just" remove the paddles from a 599GTO and drop in a manual transmission. Everything is so integrated that you'd destroy the car unless you had the cash and now how to bring things back up to standard.)

 

Thats the transmission and you can change that out if you want also, I don't think anyone would be doing it them selves and obviously you have the cash to make such changes anything is doable how it works out is another story and you certainly can add and remove a turbo...theres a few 458s with a twin turbo set up theres even a custom 458 with a Ferrari V12, it could run on corn oil if you really wanted that.

Why should I buy a turbo 458 and get the turbo removed?

if you bought a turbo car and removed the turbo, it just would not work correctly without completely reworking the engine. i mean sure it would run....but youd get about 1/4th the power the engine can generate, and it would run ROUGH.

 

RMitchell, you are right. My driving doesn't exceed 150 km/h very often (~93 MPH) and almost never hits 200km/h (~124 MPH).

NO, you make a great point and I think I agree with it. One reaction I have though is in a way we are lucky the companies are figuring out how to give us powerful sports cars at all- remember the last time around... It could be worse. And if the next car really isn't as exciting as the 458, well, we have the 458.

Something tells me Ferrari will do something special so we will all feel good about it. Until then though, I really do like my motor NA, but I also said I'd never have an automatic nor automated manual in the stable and now I have to eat those words.... Everything changes.

Then it would not be the next 458 and maybe you want the new car design and tech but you love the old engine.

No way will it fit into a 458... With all that KERS-stuff there's not enough space for it.

There's levels to it...Some would say spending more than 50k to go fast and feel awesome is stupid but what do they know?

What would interesting would be a 458 engine coupled with Kers or the new model using laf tech instead of a turbo..

 

It's a v12 inside that 458 body, google it. NA V8+ start stop system + Kers + Lots of CF is exactly what would justify an MSRP of 320k and still protecting resale value of the last car. I dunno why everyones screaming about Turbo lol Turbo is easy. The LaF is the prototype for the next mid engine V8...

 

The F40 with its 2.9 V8 biturbo engine inspired the F355 with its 3.5 V8 engine, the F50 with its 4.7 V12 engine inspired the F360 with its 3.6 V8 engine, and the Enzo with its 6.0 V12 inspired the F430 and the 458 Italia with their 4.3 and 4.5 V8 engines.

Yes Richie, your logic is very impressive, very well founded and absolute not speculative, just common sense! You've convinced me, the 458 successor will have a V12 engine with KERS - and as an option an easy removable turbo system, just for the city to reduce the V12 exhaust noise.

 

Why try to argue this all the time, I don't want to convince you of anything the car will do that when it comes out lol I never once said the 458 replacement would have a V12 or removeable turbo, do you read? I was contemplating ideas and possibilities since No one not even you actually knows whats coming in two years... I said it would be a smaller version of LaF just like the Enzo is to the 458 and the F50 is to the 360 from a mid engine and design perspective.

When I say it's prototype for the 458 replacement I mean its vision of things to come just like it says on Ferraris website for La Ferrari...If you don't see the connection between the mid engine V12s and The Mid Engine V8s I can't help you.

The F50 comes out then the 360 The Enzo Then The 458 The La Ferrari then in a few years we'll see whats next...the pattern is pretty consistent.

Ferrari is saying here look all this awesomeness but you can't have it because youre not special but in a few years I'll sell you a less exclusive version and you'll love it.

 

Eric Clapton' s car got the V8 out of the 458. He requested a V12 but was denied so by Ferrari on the grounds of unfeasibility.

The mid engine V8s take ideas from the hypercars but they don't get their running gear or performance. The Speciale got LaFerrari's brakes and the next 458 will feel like a baby LaFerrari to drive but won't share engines or anything.

 

Oh yes, thank you Richi, now I see the connection between these two product lines: both are Ferrari's with a mid engine layout. Did I miss some other thin?

 

Thats so weird, why the hell did he still name it the SP12... From a marketing standpoint the mid engine V8 that replaces the 458 should be a baby La Ferrari with similar technology possibly something that surpasses it.
