The 918 Evo , SS, and Chris drove were not final spec or full power. I was recently at stuttgart and the 918 we drove had no brake feel issues and was insanely fast.

Let's wait until we see side by side review of the 3 hypers

I know the Ring talk was talked about gazillion but... I was looking at 918 Nurburgring lap time (not the record one, 7:00 one). And at the end of lap, starting with last straight batteries where depleted.

Now, 918 recharges batteries on breaking so can anyone chim in and explain to me how is P1 suppose to last full lap with no breaking recharge and smaller batteries.

Even Goodwin didnt give straight answer when Harris asked him about it. I think they didnt break the record because I just cant see batteries lasting full lap.

If Porsche fixed breaking feel "issue" then I see reason for Ferrari to heavily control reviews of LaFerrari. These machines are extremely complex and like new F1 cars need alot of calibration and updates so it would be smart to wait for final version of car for review purposes.

If they also have more BHP then test versions then I see it as Porsche mistake to let journalists drive it early.

I have vurped back up the koolaid enough to not let the brand influence me too much, but if there is one thing Ferrari knows, it is excitement. Even if others are marginally faster, that engine is a big screaming trump card.

I didn't know it was pre-production.. why would they let them drive an unfinished product ?

A finished car didn't exist at the time. And Porsche wanted positive buzz to help sell more 918's. I have a feeling a production 918 with the lightweight option ticked will be a lot closer to the p1 and laf performance wise then the preproduction cars were.

The 918 has so much torque..

It worked I guess.. it was mostly positive, but McLaren and Ferrari didn't have to do that and still got plenty of attention

As someone who rarely posts but avidly reads these forums everyday and as a self professed mclaren fan boy. The laferrari reviews look excellent. I did not expect to see it doing powerslides so easily and so controllable. If the customer cars can replicate that, then you have got to say that they have built an excellent car. I still think the mclarens aero and uncomprimissed race mode will be quicker but the ugly Ferrari does sound better and also looks really driveable for a 900+hp car, just as much as the p1 did when harris drove it. Most of the reviewers did seem to agree that it was now only between 2 cars. The magical production 918 will hopefully apear soon but until then it looks like it is so close that they don't want to actually call it.

    a couple of choice quotes

"But having driven it rather more extensively back in the UK just a couple of days after driving the LaFerrari. I’m fairly certain that the P1 has an extra sense of surging madness to its acceleration between 4000-8500rpm that the more linear Ferrari doesn’t quite replicate"

"Having said that, the P1 definitely feels stiffer and generates less roll than the LaFerrari, even in its most comfortable setting – but it also feels more refined somehow than the 918, which has the noisiest drive-train of the three"

Please, you'll have to do better than that. It's predictable that the closet P1 fans will come out in droves. so you're saying that the LaF pace + engine noise is NOT
more savage? while hauling a@@ like that, the 6.2 liter NA V12 ripping to 9500rpm (insane) doesn't sound more manic than a muffled turbo engine? are you hard of hearing? the P1 is an insanely fast car, unique in its own way, and one that exists in my fantasy garage, but you have to be seriously delusional to deny what's what.

you misunderstood what I meant. I meant more 'savage' as in more 'visceral', more exciting in an overt way, in that it combines insane speed with an amazing noise. Autocar review really shows this.

Yea, but then again blow off every few seconds isn't exactly what I would call fun either. Juvenile is the word.

that's right...annoying and juvenile is exactly the way that a proper bada@@ super high revving V12 should sound. exactly how a Ferrari hypercar should sound while it's delivering such immense performance.
