Fantastic reviews! I wonder if there will be a full test soon with timing. Whoever bought it must be very happy Jim, now that the reviews out you disappeared? ;-)
There are a few notable people absent today; that did like to point out all of the supposed flaws.... LOL
I get the feeling watching the videos, that the P1 and the LaFerrari are so close in performance that driving it after the P1 lessened the overall sense of occasion. The gap in performance is not as wide as the one perceived with the 918. So the P1 reviews all seem to have much more emotional content to them. More shock and awe. Not saying that the P1 is better but it's like the first time you ever drove a truly fast car in anger, its hard to duplicate that feeling when the performance of the other car is so close. At least that's what I see happening.
I like to present last. People usually forget the first presentations, especially when the last one blows them away.
Its interesting that one of the biggest "flaws" of LaFerrari was said to be downforce, but judging by Ferrari's numbers its 360kg at 124mph, which would bring it very close to P1's downforce at 160mph. What are other flaws that left? Hard to drive and tail happy? Actually its the opposite. Small batteries? Even better, they work all the time and recharge on breaking while ICE produces close to 800 BHP while also being the lightest of all 3 hypercars. All in all LaFerrari is a triumph, and it was expected. When was the last time Ferrari released bad hypercar? People expecting that after 458/F12 and new PU rules in F1 surely look clueless now.
GOD, does la furry look awful. what is with the brake-dive, roll and squat on that chassis? a 458 with an f12 engine: oh, i get it.....
It doesn't seem to be the case here. I get the feeling it's a close race. Not 1 tester said it was better or worse. It's obvious that they drive different but are close in performance. And I'll never forget the first time I opened up a liter bike. Or the first time I felt a funny car make a pass. There will always be a last every new presentation is the last, but only one first time.
It could also be fastest on track too (although I think P1 will be). It produces plenty of downforce, it is the lightest one and has best power to weight ratio. On the Ring i reckon its the slowest one, P1 that is.
I agree. I feel all three are superb cars that deliver performances that many years ago we could only dream of, but each in its own way. If I could pick one I would pick Porsche, the car is simply grown up. Just beautiful, simple and technologically stupendous.
Why not? The Ring is probably of the limits for McLaren and Porsche got it beaten, but LaFerrari could do very well in GP style track. Better power to weight ration and contrary to popular belief actually loads of downforce.
No I mean the one that goes from 0-60 in 2.4 seconds. The one that also holds record lap on Nurburgring.
It is gorgeous car. Doesn't look like 8 year old's room poster car or racing car from looney tunes but it does its job.
They each may be quicker on tracks that favor their strengths. The track that has the highest average speed in the corners probably favors the P1 because of the down force. The LaFerrari hits it's max at 124 mph. The P1 has to be stiffened x 300 % to withstand the max down force and I haven't read anything about the LaFerrari doing either at speed. If I recall correctly they had to limit the P1 or else it would crush the suspension.
