i like being shocked. but if la furry is faster than p1 around any circuit other than a straight line... i will eat my shoe!
You are wrong about the downforce. Ferrari stated what the car manages at 124 mph as a reference point, but that is not the highest downforce that the car can generate.
p1 will eat la furry for lunch on a race track just look at the videos. can't you guys see the body control, for chrisssakes!!!
I've been here for a day and already its pretty clear to me you are a fine troll. Just enough to get people hooked. It is purposeful I'll give you that, but its also over the top cartoonish and very juvenile. And since it failed against "overweight, slow" Porsche at Ring I guess they could have gone slightly easier on "purpose" and made it look more attractive. Anyway...we are going heavy OT. Its good that LaFerrari is actually exceptional hypercar (who would have thought it?).
No no not a troll in its true sense, just that you like to poke people on these boards subtly without noticing. I didn't notice at first until you said P1 is the most beautiful car ever made (I know you are getting one but still...cmon).
Having low amount of posts doesnt mean he is troll, and also he is here for a day, and he hasnt shown any sign of trolling what so ever, you though...
How much downforce in race mode can it take before it pushes the car into the tarmac. The suspension seems to be very compliant in all the videos. Maybe there's something they aren't telling us?
Steve Sutcliffe- "But having driven it rather more extensively back in the UK just a couple of days after driving the LaFerrari I’m fairly certain that the P1 has an extra sense of surging madness to its acceleration between 4000-8500rpm that the more linear Ferrari doesn’t quite replicate"
I agree, the bare carbon car at the ring sounds about perfect. just with the minor tweaks to aero (front vent, gurney lip on the rear spoiler), lowered ride height, the exhaust was certainly tweaked. clearly sounds more visceral.
It probably does being that it is turbo but having linear acceleration and power delivery without sudden bursts is a better solution. Although I wouldn't take anything Steve says at face value without proper testing (just look at his P1 and 918 comparison).
Suspension compression rates are not proportional. You can adjust that using variable compression coils.
Good for you. Now go do it at McLaren life where judging by your posts you should be way more than here.
different power curve of a turbo engine. doesn't mean it's faster. but it certainly might 'feel' it. I think that's what he's saying. 'sense' being the word. same with P1 vs 918, where P1 feels so much faster, but in reality it's not. the impromptu test by Car and Driver shows this.
Exactly. Its that "savagery" doesn't mean jack on track though. Interestingly, new PUs in F1 from Ferrari and especially Renault have been rumored to have very aggressive power curve compared to Mercedes unit and thats anything but good. They are trying their best to have it as linear as possible so that that much power and torque can be put on the track without fizzling out and actually be driveable (which they currently arent).
To with stand up to 1300 lbs of downforce and still be compliant. That's some amazing tech. Good for them, I'm impressed.
agreed. to me the term 'savage' more applies to LaF because it's much more intense noise to go with the ridiculous pace. I know to others the term means something else, a delivery akin to F40, which is what P1 does but on a much more intense scale, and more refined at the same time.
I think that the c&d test showed the benefits of awd at launch, which wasn't much, surprisingly. Look at the speed at the end of the qtr mile. That tells you all you need to know. It towers over the 918.
the compliant ride of LaF is what really surprises me! and that it achieves its tremendous downforce with a 'normal' ride height. however, I expect the super low ride height (where it then achieves max downforce), and stiff setup of P1 in race mode will give it the more 'direct' chassis performance on smooth circuits.
Mercedes is killing them in overall power. When you can't pass them in the drs zone and they cant use it because they're in front it's not about power curve it's about total power.
