Looking at a car 1999 Ferrari 360 Modena, $68,995 - Cars.com They just emailed me all of the service records. I don't see the yearly services. They say there is 64% left on clutch. I don't see exhaust manifolds or the cam things being replaced. If anyone has the time, I can email you the service records. Thanks for your help. Can't get a good read on the dealer either.
Go to the dealer site and check out the carfax. That looks great. One owner since 2001! Someone must have serviced it. Maybe post up in the Southern California section to see if anyone knows the car or previous owner. I wonder how the present dealership got the car?
Pretty basic car and looks a bit rough for that money. Bolsters are shot, looks like pressure cap is bad, chipped up paddles, etc. Can't see any pics of the dash so don't know about shrinkage or bubbling. I would guess that it has the stickies. There is a nice Grigrio Ingrid car in FerrariAds. It loos like a much better buy. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/ferraris/445617-99-f360-modena-rare-combination.html
Low-ball him after talking a good look at the car and/or doing a PPI. Offer him $60K and see what they say. If they say no, walk away for a few days...maybe a week and see if they call you back.
I don't think I'm interested in the original car. There many towing bills for the car not having power. They put batteries in but if they can't keep a battery charged how good are you taking care of it.
I've seen the 1999 being offer for around 70k a couple of times before. The good thing (whether you care about it or not) is that the mileage is fairly low. If you ever want to sell the car again, that will def be a big plus. In terms of service and records, if you have them, make sure everything that needed to be done was done, and when the next service would be due again. The color is awesome, but I'm obviously partial However, I think yellow pops, stands out, and looks fantastic on the 360! Does it have an ECU upgrade, and any other upgrades, add ons? What exhaust, and headers?
It has the ecu upgrade but no record of the cam thing or exhaust manifold or headers. There were a couple of failed emissions. There was a few emergency tows with the car having no power. Even though it shows a new battery was installed, too many times is one of those where there's smoke there's fire.
The cam variator change was a warranted item and should have been replaced on all of the early 360's. When I bought my 2000 360 I suspect the work had been done, but the dealer couldn't actually prove it and Ferrari did not have the work recorded in their data base. So, I had enough doubt to insist that as part of the deal, he ship the car to a Ferrari dealer to have the variators changed (and recorded by Ferrari). I live in Italy and I don't know if FOA keeps records of the variator change or not. I suspect any American Ferrari dealer could tell you if they do or they don't. In any case, if the seller can't PROVE that it was done, you can act accordingly. Do NOT just let it go unmentioned, that's for sure.
That is one stunning car and the price is right on the money but I'm sure there is some wiggle room. If you are interested ask Curt (VRSurgeon) who lives in Savannah to go check it out for you. I don't know where you live but transportation costs are not too high. Alan
Some cars did not need to have the variator campaign done, your Local Ferrari dealer should be able to run the vin and check. Also 99 didn't have precats so there is nothing you need to worry about with the headers. For the price and mileage I will assume the service records (the ones that matter) can not be produced and the car will need a full service. Still a good buy if you got the car for even 65 and put another 6-7 in to. Looks clean to me but I think it should be viewed in person, pics can fool you.
I have considered the car. Almost bought it. Did not for several reasons. 1 - the dealer inexplicably drove the car out of area the day I told them was coming down to finalize deal. 2-Take a look at Yelp and Ripoff report re reputation. Email me off line for additional concerns on their rep 3-do not like the discolored tape on airscoop in front of rear wheels. Would consider the car if I knew the cost to fix (remove and repaint?) I offered $68,000. Sounded like they would have gone $68,500. They have contacted me since. Dealer said he had rejected $65,000. I bet you could get now for $65 or $66 now. I did not know about the sticky issue where I looked at two months ago. So did not check.
According to the Carfax it seems dealer has had it for over a year, this sounds like a red flag to me. Either something is wrong with the car or something is wrong with the dealer, otherwise she wouldn't be sitting there for this long.
P.S. If you do go forward would recommend Bobileff Motor Carsfor the inspection. Had more reasonable price than Ferrari of San Diego. Mr. Boblieff sounded competent and professional. Also dealer said would drive car over there.
Regarding the cam variators and other campaigns on the 1999, when I had my PPI done at the dealership last year, the dealer was able to look it up and confirm the work had been done, so at least some dealers do keep records.
I'm not sure a Ferrari for sale for a long time is bad or just because it's a more narrow market compared to other cars but when I was looking for a year many of the same cars were still for sale 3-6-9 months later. Just every so often one would disappear and a new one pop up. Not sure exactly why, I can't beleive they were all bad cars with stories?? Sent from my Android
Seems to me that any car that was done at a dealer would be in the system. The dealer would want to be reimbursed for their work from Ferrari. Are you guys saying that not all the dealers follow the instructions on the campaign 97. It clearly tells them to stamp the heads... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Few stamped the VD. For US cars the campaign is covered by FNA. That doesn't mean that all cars were done. A dealer should be able to run the VIN and tell you if the variators have been changed. Note I said campaign not recall. Variators, like many things, were a campaigns and were never recalls. The difference is that recalls MUST be fixed and are mandated by the government. Campaigns are done as warranty work and are technically at the discretion of the manufacturer.
Thanks for all the nice compliments about my 1999 Grigio Ingrid F360. I am happy to let anyone inspect the car at anytime.
Your car is beautiful. My wife wants a yellow. She said yes to me buying one so she'll probably get her way on color. I'll show her yours tonight and see what she thinks but I think she wants it to be flashy.
Well you can reassure her that the car gets all the attention she could ever want without being yellow or red. Plus you are almost guaranteed to be one of a kind no matter how many other Ferrari's are around. But honestly no pressure. I know these are dream cars and you should get just what you want.
I got a Grigio Alloy car thinking it would not be noticed and stealthy... I was wrong ! They are all flashy. When I bought my car, I hoped for a yellow one but in reality the only rule I had was not Red or Black and bought the first one I found that was not those 2 colors. But after 2 years, you wont notice anymore I think its been months since I saw anyone taking a pic or talking to me at the gas station, my wife says I have become blind to the cell phones on the freeway they still happen she says.
Your wife is right, at least this time I have become desensitized but when I take someone along they notice the lookers.
