Funny, in the picture showing the #152, 153 and 154 Porsches the letters on the bonnets seem to be black, but I wouldn't trust the picture too much since the letters "GUATEMALA" on the roof look black-white-black in the picture, while in fact they were painted in the Guatemala flag colours, that is blue-white-blue.

One more. I wonder who took all these photos at this spot with Kodachrome. It has to be the same person. I would love to buy copies of the full set for my personal use!!

Tom, looking at all of these photos fills me with wonder at how skinny were the tires these guys raced on. I was one of them, raced a TR3 in 1958-59 and two years later a Porsche 356b Super 90 coupe. The TR3 was delivered with Dunlop Gold Seals and when I went racing I tried the then-new Michelin X's but found they were too 'grippy'. They held and held, then let go without warning. Ultimately settled on Pirelli Stelvios which gave wonderful grip but also permitted you to break the back end loose and drift the car. The Porsche came with Continentals which were fine on road and track. But Lord, the tires in the Carrera photos look skinny today!

Hi F1tommy, by that period doc attached bellow, (posted by you on FC on 01-18-2013, 12:44 PM) plus some more info I gathered on Alfa Romeo Museum, one can clearly assume that the following text is the correct answer:

#268 Alfa Romeo 1900 T 06245(chassis) WHITE Alfa Romeo Finamecanica Bruno Bonini/Piero Zanavoni ( per the image attached) and

#268 1900.06245(chassis) grigio chiarissimo (AR 706) (per Alfa Romeo Museum)

Thank you...Have you seen the restored car to confirm its chassis number is the same??

The 1/24th Alfa Romeo 2500 Pan Am 1951 transkit is behind schedule but should be ready soon. The body and decals are done but I have not cast them up yet.

Until then a few more photos.

I know alot of you find Pan Am photos and information on the internet...Please post them here if they are not already posted. I do not mind other sites spreading the word and using any info on this thread but they should share what they find on this thread also(I do not own the photos and I understand the language issue). That is only fair and helpful in spreading Pan Am information!!!

I built this one for the Ferrari Expo 2014. It is based on the K&R 1/24th Jaguar kit with Toninyapas ARTECNO decals. Well defined and designed decals custom printed in 1/24th scale. Thanks Toni!!

Very nice 1/24th scale model of the OSCA MT4 Pan Am 1954 car owned by Alfonso De Portago and driven by Roberto Mieres. The model was scratch built by Marcelo Figliozzi of Strada 24. I hope he makes a kit!!!

I do think this is #0428M the black #2 1954 Pan Am Ferrari Monza. The rear light configuration and number of hood vents and cowl make me think it is. It looks almost unchanged other than being very dirty and having the Pan Am numbers removed. Even the tires are Pirelli Stelvio Corse still. Taken at Laguna Seca in 1956.

This just shickles the tit out of me. When in early 1959 I decided to race my little TR3 it wore its original Dunlop Gold Seal tyres. I first tried the then quite new Michelin X's but found them too grippy for the narrow tracked TR, would hold and hold, then let go without warning. I found it almost impossible to induce a 4-wheel drift, perhaps my own limitations, perhaps due to lack of sufficient torque to break the rear wheels loose. I tried a set of Pirelli Stelvios and found them just right for my 102mph top-speed screamer.

It looks good but the 1952 1-2-3 clothing detergent cars had red roofs not white. The 1953 Phil Hill Mexico had a white roof.

Pirelli Stelvio Corse tires were pulled out of production around 1957/1958. They might have been expensive to produce so Pirelli decided to get out of the top line race tire business for a few years starting in the late 1950's.
