Because the two cars touched earlier and Bottas didn't want to take both cars out of the race. Bottas was the adult here. Massa was the child.
I've always agreed that Hamilton gained an adantage, but they should have ordered Hamilton to give the position back right then and there. The BS of the whole thing was manipulating the results afterwards after McLaren got the "OK" while the race was happening. IMO, it was clear that LH would not have been able to pass the Ferrari where he did had he not cut the chicane. To say that "he just would have done it later so it doesn't matter" doesn't make any sense considering he could have easily crashed like Kimi did from trying too hard and feeling more pressure. It's impossible to know, but he did gain an advantage. The whole thing was a big cock up.
Forget the data. If Bottas had the goods to catch up and pass Button then he had the goods to pass Massa. With DRS the days of trains should be over with anyone who has his act together. The reason why he didnt is between Bottas's ears alone. Please remember I am a BOTTAS fan NOT Massa so I am not looking at this with rose colored glasses. Enzo loved pitting his drivers against each other and then letting them have it out. Enzo would be ecstatic (as long as they didn't take each other out).
interesting the way the order was given by the team. was it from massas race engineer? if so, massa needs to have a talk with him. or, was someone on the team just waiting to say that line that got rob smedly a lot of air time/publicity?
I respectfully disagree. If Massa allowed him to pass, what do you think people's reaction would be? Exactly the same as how he didn't allow him to pass. They will call for his retirement. You don;t win championship by not taking risks. I'm very sure you are aware of that. Peace mate.
Plenty of major F1 drivers former WDC's are backing Massa here. Like I said earlier Bottas has a throttle pedal. He never passed him. End of story. Next time maybe he will carry the fight through and make a pass. SO who is at fault LOL!
Lol! So Massa was thinking of of the team would look and people's reactions if he moved over. Let's get this straight. Massa was only thinking of himself at that time. He didn't care how fast Bottas was. He didn't care if Bottas had better tires. He only cared about himself. He said so after the race. What Massa was thinking when he got the call from the team was "F U". I want you to think about this. Let's say the opposite happened and Massa moved over so Bottas could charge ahead on his fresher tires. Then after the race Massa said he did it for the good of the team because his tires were going off. Then the team thanked him and said it was greatful for giving them the chance for more team points. What would be the reaction of people? Would Massa look like a hero or a chump? Would the Massa haters say he was an idiot or a true team player? You know the answer.
Duh! No one driving like team orders. This is a surprise? Look... I don't like team orders either. But they exist and that's the deal that all drivers understand when they get in the seat. If you have team orders then you should follow them. If you ignore team orders you better be prepared to face the consequences of the damage it does to the team.
He would be more of a chump if Bottas tried to pass him and they both crashed. They already touched once. That is what they were trying to avoid. Then the Massa haters would really have something to talk about.
I understand the team orders issue. The application must be done well in the right situation. It would appear for the most part Williams did not do a good job. The drivers are also in the seat driving and fighting. The team is in fact not always right. This time Bottas could have passed and didnt. Williams made a terrible decision and used a poor choice of words to boot. Massa did not follow the order. Sun rose today. Race this weekend. And also PF1 has an article saying Williams apologized to Massa. Go figure. They told Massa to let Bottas through. What did Bottas do. Well he didnt pass. So its Massa's fault lol. Not in the slightest. Bottas wants points he needs to make a move. I could care less who is faster than who at Williams. Bottas needs to sort that out himself and this time he lost. Whatever. He needs to start with qualy and get ahead of Massa on the grid to start with. He is losing that battle as Massa has always been good on qualy and on starts. He has his work cut out for him. Bottas might have race pace but he needs to improve his total package and stop thinking the team will do it for him. He should attack and put his stamp on the team or Massa will beat him easily. Like him or not Massa has 11 wins and tons of experience. Bottas has an uphill battle. He needs to start making progress now or else. Given K-Mag and Kyvat, Bottas can be overlooked very quickly these days. He is clearly not as fast as either of them to put it mildly. In equal cars he would be beaten by Kyvat without question. He has zero chance against K-mag. Felipe is least of his overall worries. He is not the fastest among his young peers by any measure, Massa not withstanding.
GPGuide | News - Williams apologises after Massa team order Apparently, the orders were not fair to Massa or the fans.
A PR move -- nothing more and nothing less. Two wrongs don't make a right. 1) Yes, the team should not of done it, but they did. 2) Massa should have followed what he was instructed to do, but he didn't.
Time will tell. Many rookies start out strong only to fade after the initial motivation wears off. IMO Bottas is the real deal.
Massa beaten in Q last night cleanly. I dont think Massa sucks but Val did exactly what he needed to do. I expect Bottas to finish ahead as well. Bottas doesnt need the teams help to pass or beat Massa. Just good driving. He certainly did that last night. Very impressive qualy lap.
On Senna : Remembering Senna: The F1 Drivers | F1 Feature I met him at the Ilhabela Yacht Club one night, my family had a house there and he showed up at the restaurant with a woman, on a boat. I was about eight, nine years old, and people said at the restaurant that it was Senna. So I got a pen, a piece of paper, me and two children, and we asked for an autograph. And he said no. Enough said.....................in jest of course !
