Is driving the F1 in auto in "Race" mode better than "Sport" mode for clutch life given that it holds gears longer? Recently, all I have been doing is driving in "race" mode - it's a blast to drive. Is that ok? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Race mode in auto? Sounds like a contradiction in terms. I don't think it will alter clutch life. Clutch wear is mostly dependent on how you take off.
Auto and Race modes are fully compatible and Race gives the same benefits in shift speed in Auto as using the paddles. Same is true for Sport with the 360 (Race for CS).
got it. so if I drive in "race" mode vs "sport" in F1 auto, I wont be wearing out my clutch faster? Obviously burn more gas given higher RPM shifts....
I've had my MT car in race mode for a couple of years now. I decided to try it again in sport. It definitely improves ride quality. Incredible difference actually. I cannot comment on clutch wear.
Which do you prefer to drive in? The Race mode definitely burns more gas but so much more fun to drive in Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
My technique (only) is not to use the faster mode until the engine and transaxle are warm (~160 F oil temperature). Figure there is no sense banging shifts with a cold transaxle.
Clutch wear is directly related to how much clutch slip happens, whether it is a true manual or an F1 gearbox. I leave the CS in race because there is really zero slip and I like the crisp shifts. Even is sport, there is some slip. Just as with a true manual, there are techniques that one develops to decrease slip and make the shifts quicker. In an F1 car, one can feel the clutch bite. When that happens, if you increase throttle, clutch slip is virtually nil.
I'm sure race and auto work together. The 2 just don't seem a logical fit. Let's be lazy and cruisy and do the auto thing...in race mode? Holding the gas pedal steady upon clutch bite will result in less slip. (clutch engages faster) Increasing revs at upon clutch bite will increase slip and wear.
Glen- Did not say I used it, just that they work fine together. Once warm, if traffic is heavy enough, auto and Race complement each other. Even though I have never used Auto mode in mine, folks stll want to know how things work.
