The front flaps will open at approx. 170 km/h and 220 km/h. The flaps in the diffusor will move down at 120 and stow at approx. 80...
I've seen the ferrari aerodynamics animation video explaining how those front flaps (vertical and horizontal) work, but I'm still not quite sure I understand it. Also, it's not clear to me how those two large hood vents are tied into things? Ferrari's video also mentions the front "dam and hump" reducing pressure. Does the "hump" act like the top of an upside-down wing lowering pressure as the airflow passes over it? Why a hump and not a small diffuser?

Got to see a Speciale in the metal at Ferrari of San Antonio this morning during our monthly FCA chapter meeting. I think it's awesome with zero defects. Obviously, it's a very heavily optioned car! Thanks for the pics! I think the wheels on that car look amazing. The lack of shields really cleans the car up as well but I don't think I'd be brave enough to spec it without the shields.
Well, Happy to say the order went in last Tuesday for my Speciale. Rosso Fiorano, Nart stripe, shields, CF front vents and under door panels, gold rims, gloss black calipers, cuio outer seats, with black tech fabric and nero stitched cavalino, nero leather dash, A-pilars, lower tunnel and rear shelf. Special stitching white on black and black on cuio. Upper zone cuio leather. Special mats in nero with cuio Speciale lettering. Pics from configurator but it makes fiorano darker than it is in real life. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The thing about shields is that if you don't choose them, the next guy will put some cheap stickers on. Guaranteed. I too would never be "brave" enough to spec the car without, as some people look for it specifically on the car.
True but to quote my wife when I said I wish my ff had shields "you really need something else on there to say its a Ferrari?"
Hi Mister I was enough stupid or brave (I will never know the difference) to order one with a dark color (black) and no stripes (shields). In about ten days I will finally bring her at home. When I take a look on Flickr of Autogespot I simply think to have made a very different choice since most of the spotted cars have brilliant colors and shields. But let me say that at least in my Country the shields will not be the primary choice looking at what was sold by my dealer. So all is relative, including my stupidity
In my opinion a Ferrari has to wear bright colours - and red or yellow are perfect... If I go 250+ on the road I want other drivers to recognize my car as early as possible... Works quite well with my car so far...
Wow, that's a hell of a spec! I might have gone for the scud stripes instead but I love the Rosso Fiorano choice, love the gold wheels, love the carbon sills... oh and very nice interior, too, so much more interesting than plain black. Big congratulations and keep us posted as for the delivery date and subsequent pictures please!
Rosso Mugello is a modern interpretation of the pre-war Italian National racing colour. Think of the P3 Alfa's that Enzo ran for Alfa Romeo, quite a dark maroon red. The modern Rosso Mugello has quite a flip to it in different lighting conditions. Attached pic is of my old 430 Scuderia in Rosso Mugello. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Evidently, it also defies gravity. Cheers, George PS. I don't care about resale. If I was buying a new mid-V8 Ferrari, there would be no shields on it, period. EDIT: Ah, it's a car from down under.
Am still at the first set of tires. Have done almost 4,000 km, been out of the country a lot lately...
