Will be sold only to P1 owners McLaren has allegedly started work on a track-only version of the P1 which will be sold exclusively to those who purchased the road-going supercar. All 375 units of the P1 have already been sold and it seems some of the owners asked McLaren if they could create a more focused track-only version. The company's response was affirmative as such a model is already in the works and will reportedly be produced in "low double digits." Only those who actually purchased the road-legal P1 will have the possibility of getting the track version as well. Just like Ferrari will be doing with the LaFerrari XX, McLaren will most likely keep the cars and organize track days and events where owners will have the possibility of driving their very expensive and exclusive vehicles. Technical details are not available at this point but most likely the McLaren P1 Track (name not final) will have a lowered and upgraded suspension, a more radical body as well as more output generated by the hybrid system which in the road-legal car puts out an already impressive 916 PS (674 kW) and 900 Nm (663 lb-ft). McLaren CEO Mike Flewitt has revealed the company's entry-level P13 will go on sale in September of 2015 and cost around £135,000. Speaking to Top Gear, Flewitt said the upcoming model will be the "best driver's car in its segment" and be similar to the 650S which recently debuted at the Geneva Motor Show. As he explained "Both are two-seaters, both mid-engined but with different engines and suspensions. That's how the 650S will justify its premium [price]." The similarities will carryover to the car's styling as the executive confirmed the P13 isn't "noticeably smaller" than the 650S. That won't appease everyone but Flewitt said the P13 needs less cooling than the 650S so its styling will reflect that. Flewitt went on to say the model will use a version of their twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 engine. He declined to provided performance figures but previous reports have indicated it could produce anywhere from 444 bhp (331 kW) to 500 bhp (373 kW). Source: Top Gear
McLaren 650S GT3 goes official at Goodwood FoS McLaren has taken the wraps off the 650S GT3 today at the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed, following last week's teaser announcement. Based on the road-going 650S Coupe, the track-only GT3 derivative is a follow-up to the 12C GT3 but with a more aggressive body kit made mostly from carbon fiber and including larger air intakes providing optimized cooling. Carbon fiber was also used for the large fixed wing at the back where there's also a splitter sharing the same material. McLaren's engineers have updated the suspension geometry and installed wider tracks along with a FIA-approved rollcage which is lighter and more comfortable than its predecessor as it provides the driver with more leg and headroom. Also inside the cabin is a bespoke steering wheel while behind it is a specially developed digital dash display. Existing 12C GT3 owners have the possibility of upgrading their cars to the 650S GT3 specification which shares the same V8 3.8-liter twin-turbo engine. Until the 2015 season, McLaren plans on manufacturing and delivering 15 units of the 650S GT3 together with 15 upgrade packages. Image Unavailable, Please Login

According to a recent report, McLarens entry-level sports coupe could be named the 500S. Up until now it was believed the vehicle in question will be badged as the P13, but now Winding Road says it could wear the 500S moniker. Set to take on the Porsche 911 Turbo, the Nissan GT-R and the upcoming Mercedes-AMG GT, the car will be priced at around $180,000 (136,000 EUR). The magazine also says it is very hard to predict what the car would look like. Mclaren CEO Mike Flewitt has described it as "evolutionary", while design director Frank Stephenson was quoted saying that "Ferraris must look like Ferraris, and Porsches invariably look like Porsches, but there is no fixed formula for a McLaren". As reported before, the 500S will likely be powered by a detuned version of the brands 3.8-liter V8 engine with output topping at about 500 PS (368 kW). The model will be getting some of the main features of the 650S, such as the carbon fiber central tub, the dashboard and and some of its ergonomics. It is believed the 500S will be revealed during next years Geneva Motor Show with sales starting several months later. It will be offered in three different body styles coupe, spider and the track-focused 500S GTS. Source: Winding Road Image Unavailable, Please Login
So following the MP4-12C that was impounded the same night as the 458 (which of course was later crashed) tells me something interesting. People don't seem to register their cars. Odd.
