    A targa is a much less turbulent ride than a full convertible and saves you from needing one of those idiotic windblockers behind the seats.

    I think this is overengineered -- unclipping a targa roof manually isn't all that hard (308/328, etc.) and there's nothing to break down. But I like the targa concept, and never considered the 'giant moonroof' approach of the 996/997 to really live up to it.

    Isn't a turbulent ride with the wind in your hair and sun on your face the point of owning a convertible? Otherwise, why not just buy a coupe'.

    I always liked the targa concept because the original coupe lines remain but one can still experience open air motoring. Now that hard top convertibles are more common that may not have a place but I think many still crave them, myself included.

    Next time around, though, I'd bet we'll see even less manuals.

    (The six speed offered on the 981 platform is a better shifter. But both 981 and 991 interiors pack the front side of the stick with all kinds of controls that become that much harder to get to because of the stick.)

    I think its a testament to what the 911 has become, a gt car of note. This si essentialy how you put a hardtop convertible on a 911. It looks retro cool too.

    But yeah its heavy, and not rigid like a hardtop or even a real targa. Porche is mining the niches like crazy.

    As the 911 really is now a 991 somehting quite different than what it was, the 991 is a cool At car, a porche mercedes SL.

    The 911 which survived in essence into the 997 is dead, except in profile.

    You can get a turbo cab. A turbo targa would be great. Wonder why it is not available (yet).

    Without looking at the actual production data of prior Targa models, I'd bet they are already so rare that making the Turbo version wouldn't sell much. The 911 Cabrios and Coupes are the more common ones of the three I see so the Turbo versions of those make sense. I'd opt for a Turbo Targa myself if there was one available.

    Big heavy bloated, lack of tactility. Its a refined big heavy Gt car, the old ones were small charismatic tight sprotscars full of feel.

    Yes. If you want a new Porsche sportscar a boxster/cayman or a 918 is your choice.
