    People that drive their cars.

    And I wouldn't call a space large enough to hold a helmet VAST, unless your head is abnormally large.

    Just how overpriced do you suppose Mclaren's P1 custom fitted luggage is?

    https://media.mclarenautomotive.com/release/184/

    McLaren has also announced that the car will cost from £866,000 on the road with a specification that fully equips the car for both road and track use. The company prides itself on designing performance cars that their owners can use regularly so the McLaren P1™ comes comprehensively equipped as standard with an array of colour and trim alternatives from which the customer will be able to choose as well as visible carbon fibre in the cabin. The options list is limited to only bespoke content that a customer might wish to add through McLaren Special Operations, and fitted luggage.

    It is on the planet I inhabit , the one with speed limits , police men , speed cameras , dizzy drivers etc

    A to b on the road is important in a road car ( to me at least ).

    You can do 100 in a diesel Fiesta on the M3 without much trouble. My point though was that for these cars, attaining such a speed from standstill is a matter of 4-5 seconds. Hardly a valid metric of their true performance.

    Does anyone know the price of the luggage option for the LF and/or P1? Erik?

    Luggage is included in the cost of the LaFerrari. It is a no 'option' unless you specify something from programma di personalizzazione 'outside range'. You can get the luggage in tan, red/black, yellow/black, and black/black, as standard. However if you go to the programma di personalizzazione 'outside range' or Tailor Made you can get the luggage in almost anything including ostrich (yuck). I've wondered why the journalists haven't used the car's on board telemetry to run quiet independent acceleration tests once given a car to run around the hills of Maranello. Most customer cars will be fitted with this option as it's a no cost option as well, I guess no one told them how to get into the telemetry window.

    Never understood, whats the sense?
    Take m3 gt3 - much faster on track than any hypercar, even 'track oriented' and much cheaper to service.

    Of you are a billionare - buy LMP1 or F1 on auction)

    Well, because a track focused P1 should be able to match an LMP2 car around a track and obliterate any GT3 race car. And it's good for the owners to form a close relationship with the company and for McLaren to use these cars to develop some new stuff for their future models. :)

    No way it will be anywhere near LMP2, would be good if it will be able to get gt3. But gt3 is pure race tech, I fear to think what will be with p1 after 5-6 hours of racing)))

    Let's move on Mr. Kanu,

    according to your beloved Autocar and Mr. SS, P1 is slower in every respect compared to the 918 (non WS).
    0-60;
    0-100 (even I'm surprised!!!);
    1/4 mile!!!

    They get different results in different tests. You have to compare apples with apples. Relatively speaking, it is only 2s slower to 190mph than the Veyron SS and that makes sense.

    You have to compare MT's P1 test results with their 918 results. Not Autocar vs MT.

    As for the lap time, it's pretty good considering that there were two wet patches on the track and it could've gone quicker if it were totally dry. :)

    I think he is speaking in the form that there would be a track focused version of P1. Not the current car. Chris Goodwin said in the Chris Harris interview that the P1 can not match the 12C GT3 around circuits such as Spa, namely due to tire restrictions.

    Good try, but my memory brings this:

    "One, the P1 is faster than the 918. Everywhere. On paper it looks close enough for there not to be much difference in the real world. But in that real world the McLaren feels of-another-solar-system quicker the Porsche. It feels as fast as anything I've ever driven to be honest, including Honda's 2007 F1 car, whereas the 918 feels merely very fast indeed."

    Another journalist said that the 918 didn't feel much faster than the F12. Of course that still means it's seriously fast, but not on par with the P1 / LaF from what we've seen so far.

    P1 on standard tires did a lap time of ~2:32.00 around Spa and the owner isn't a professional racer. He said it could do it in about 2:25,00, so it should be able to match GT3 cars if it were on its optional Trofeo R tires. A purely race focused P1 should probably be able to lap slightly slower than an LMP2 car. Just speculating. :)

    So far we have seen, that 918 (non WS) is at least on par with "best before and after" P1 or according to today's data - QUICKER.
    Sorry, just facts... :)

    So it was most likely race tires that were on the car when McLaren said it was 6 second faster at cataluna.
