Have you seen some of the cars on that list ? 9 seconds on that track is an age mate , especially as it was only 2 seconds faster than the nearly 2 ton veyron in the dry . No wonder they didn't turn up to face the 918 on the damp top gear track ... I think the la Ferrari will eat it alive .
In fact, if we look the times of Autocar, we can say P1 is not faster than a F1 from 0 to 300. Even better! 100mph to 186mph, the F1 is almost faster than P1, amazing!
Here you go sir, I am w,t doomus . General of the empire and owner of a mighty bum dyno . My bum ( like The Lord humungus ) will not be defied Image Unavailable, Please Login
bravo!!!!!!!!! what a marvelous triumph! simply beautiful! it is unbelievable that there is living legend among us mortal coils.
Mark a damp patch or two where described won't make even half a second difference . The 9 seconds annihilation and the ss being faster everywhere and all the time is what interests me . Especially after I was mocked for daring to suggest the ss is the faster car after I drove them both . At the same time on the same day , back to back and together . Please post the wet times mark ... Cars faster than the p1 include a VW golf (!), a ford focus st and a bmw 320 . Diesel. A lap that the owner has refused to provide me any video v box data for . I was very impressed and as someone who has done a lot of work around spa I was merely interested . Did I get any video v box data? You know the answer to that one.
Your bum dyno seems to be properly calibrated. Although i expected an SS to be faster on a wet track, 9 sec is a lot, esp on a 60-70sec lap.
Thanks Wtdoom for posting the test results and congrats for your bum. Despite the short track length, I was expecting a faster track time for the P1, mainly because of those high speed curves. Does anyone know if the tarmac is smooth or more "Nürburgring style"? Regards
Me too . Thanks for the bum comments , lol Tarmacs smooth , autocar laps are done at Mira and the sprinkler system makes it consistently wet . My bum dyno thanks you . To elaborate , the p1 is immense and makes it's power very very dramatically but mclaren have failed to match figures . 16.5 to 300? Not quite . I'm very interested to see the 918 and la Ferrari full tests by autocar .
To be honest, wet weather is not the forte of any 2WD car. What amazes me though is that the Veyron SS is faster in a straight line. That particular SS might have been a bit too powerful I reckon... "wink"
What is very interesting is that these lap times do utterly confirm my predictions about aero laps , mechanical grip / real conditions laps . They suggest any fast P1 time comes from aero, hence the 1.2g on the skid pan and the lap times at MIRA.
The bmw 320diesel that's faster on the same track in the same conditions is rwd . Zeus remember I drove them side by side on closed roads in the Middle East . I told everyone that the ss was faster and more stable on the fast sweeping bends and was laughed at on the mac forum ( even though I said how exiting etc the p1 was ) . They were both customer cars , the same customer .
Not to mention that the alleged aero has to be proven first. Anyway, what really amazes me is that the P1 is some 3 sec slower to 186 mph compared to what McLaren claims. OK, this was just one review, let's wait for more.
Here in the uk the autocar test is the benchmark. They test at Mira which a proper test centre . Sprinklers simulate the wet etc . They use the same drivers at the same track. The quoted quarter miles and 0to 300 haven't been matched in any test ( even though the figures are very special). Big mistake for the press to underestimate the SS and the mighty doom bum dyno.
The Veyron SS is at least 250 HP up on any of the 3 new hypercars. Plus it has AWD so it has the advantage off the line. I'm not seeing why it shouldn't be the fastest in a straight line.
Well, it has nearly 2 tonnes, so it actually has a poorer power-2-weight ratio and AWD creates more drivetrain loses.
I bet that the LaFerrari with its much higher power/weight ratio will prove faster. At least it is faster on paper!
P1s track time and somewhat disappointing benchmarking by Autocar doesn't really surprise me. 12C was supposed to be 458 killer, and it severely outperformed it and 911 Turbo S on straight drag race but was as we saw slower on track. This time all three are very very close on straight line so I can't imagine P1 being faster if at all, and I have no doubt we are going to be hearing a lot of excuses as time goes by.
To be honest, the 12C proved faster than the 458 on several occasions, esp after the power updated. Some tests did find the 458 faster though.
When the 12c came out, it lost out in nearly all tests against the already 2 year old 458, including the track battles. After the upgrades, the 12c became the faster car, but still not the best one to drive. Now it is another story altogether though as this time around the LaFerrari doesn't have an age disadvantage and it is both more powerful and lighter than the P1.
Wet time is pretty bad. Will be interesting to see the LF wet time. Maybe 900-1000hp in a RWD car in very wet conditions just isn't going to work out. That said, I would argue 1.7s quicker in the dry on this track is a ton. Not sure how accurate those FL times are, but here are some cars that are 1.7s or less quick than others: Ariel Atom V8 vs F430 = 1.6s Veyron SS vs F430 = 1.5s Veyron SS vs 458 = 1s With the track layout and just how short it is, you aren't going to see 10s differences in lap time. @TG track: Ariel Atom vs 430 = 7.8s SS vs 430 = 6.1s SS vs 458 = 2.3s We need to see P1, LF, and 918 times on various circuits on the same days to draw overall conclusions. And I'm not even sure there will be any overall winner. I would not at all be surprised to see each of the cars better in different situations and on different circuits.
