Well, they can tell you what is left on the brake pads which is helpful...clutch...eh...how much is left will tell how long you've got till a clutch replacement...airbags...no way unless there's a problem...have 10k in reserve, expect to maybe spend it and drive it like you stole it...wine tasting in Livermore today..had a great drive back through the back roads...such a sweet car...buy it!!!

 

My 2003 360 Spider only had 10K miles when I bought it 2 months ago.

Clutch life wear reading was at 50% which was OK with me.
Brake pads was due for replacement so the seller had that done before I bought it.

Just keep in mind that the car/ my car is over 10 years old so expect to,replace things as they age.

First month of ownership the right fuel pump failed and it started leaking fuel. Cost to remove and replace at the dealership was $2,500.00.

I asked the dealer to flush all the fluids to start fresh. This is equivalent to 2 year service.
Cost $2,000.00.

3 weeks ago luggage compartment warning sign came on, then wipers quit working.
Luggage compartment latch mechanism failed. Cost to replace $425.00.

Although these cars are very expensive to repair and maintain the smile it puts in my face every time I drive is priceless. I love my 360. Best car I ever driven and owned.

A couple of friends had their heat exchangers fail and the result was cross-contamination of the gearbox fluid. One resulted in outright transmission failure. The other didn't have the same result but getting all of the coolant out of the gearbox and transmission lines was really, really time-consuming. I recently had heat exchanger replaced as a preventive measure, but the unit that came out of my car didn't look all that bad. I suspect most failures occur due to failure to renew the coolant. I change mine every year and many change it at least every other year. Other known possible disaster points are pre-cats and variators that might fail. Both are relatively rare.

What? $2000 for that flush? Really?
I find that so over the top that it's not even funny.
But that's just me and maybe I'm a real tight wad.

To the OP, my car is almost identical in mileage and age. Had it almost 2 years and the clutch was at 11% when I bought it, it's now 23%. I have done 8000 k's.
Only problem has been an on going CEL, but we think that's sorted now. Throttle sensor failure. I'm changing it this weekend. Cost $550NZ.

These are great cars and everyone knows the 99 and 2000 models are the best.

Hmm said 3K so the previous owner only put on 1K a year. Are FCI doing the PPI? I had mine done there and it was $550 with a compression check.

We always have options.
We can take our car to a reputable Independent mechanic to save money.
In my case, the closest one is 2 hour drive away which means my wife will have to drive and follow me so she can take me home as they need the car for 2 days. Then she will have to drive me there again to pick up my car once it's done. Too much hassle.

Or We/I can do the work myself but I currently don't have the time as I work 10-12 hours a day. So I just took my car to the dealer and ate the high cost. They did a great job, gave me a loaner car for 3 days and they warranty their work for 2 years.

Hi Graham. Wife and I are now here in Florence.

The drive from Rome to Modena was awesome. Beautiful scenery and I was averaging ~105mph. The roads were wide open as people here know how to drive (they pull over to the right as soon as they pass other cars) and there were no cops on the roads.

Ferrari museum was great. Lots of their cars on display. I have all my photos still in my DSLR. I will post some for sharing once I get back home to Seattle.

You will have a fun time too I am sure when you come here to visit

I spent a very cold January weekend in Bologna back in 1995. Had to listen to a French couple in the next room making a little -- albeit noisy romanticismo. Unfortunately due to business didn't get chance to tour the Lamborghini factory but did have a very nice meal at a local mom and pop restaurant.

I see you're from nz. I am also from nz and thinking about buying a ferrari soon. Are the cost of parts (replacement clutches etc) and services etc similar to the cost
In the usa? (I.e say a clutch costs 3k in the US to replace do you simply
Convert that amount into nzd and that's the correct figure roughly) or is it more? I have a feeling nz would be more expensive

Those cops you didn't see may very well have photos of YOU in their DSLRs.

Unfortunately it seems as though our autovelox (speed cameras) are everywhere these days. I've never seen a speed trap where the police clock you and then stop you up the road or try to chase you down. But there are plenty of fixed speed cameras and mobile cameras as well. They are pretty effective and I've got the bank account debit entries to prove it.

If you rented a car and if you got caught by one of our cameras, expect them to eventually catch up to you. And don't celebrate too quickly. It may take a year or so to get the bad news.

Some possibilities include (from worst to best case);
1) your name is put on a list, once you try and clear customs anywhere in the EU you are stopped and forced to pay a huge fine
2) your name is only put on some list in Italy and you are required to pay this fine before you enter through Italy, if you go through customs or some other "official way"
3) After not paying, and the ticket being reissued to you by the Italian authorities, the polizia go back to the rental car company to collect. Your name is given to some international debt collection agency that finds a way to make life for you in your home country worse - maybe they actually find a way to garnish wages or hurt your credit score. The rental car agreement is pretty rock solid if you ask me. I received a copy of it and it pretty explicitly says - and has me sign - that I agree to pay any fines.
4) After not paying, you are on a blacklist for renting a car anywhere in the EU.
5) After not paying, you are on a blacklist for only the car company you screwed over
6) You have a warrant put out for you in the EU, but since no one really runs your name ever, and its for a speeding ticket - you only ever run into a problem when you say....report your passport stolen, and then it becomes a case of a "criminal" turning himself in. The police laugh at you for this, and make you pay a huge fine.
7) Nothing happens

Cross your fingers and hope for number seven.

 

My friend in England got one of those speed camera tickets in the mail. The thing was he was working in Austria at the time and he drove his car there. Apparently someone had a license plate made with his number on. It took him over a year to convince the authorities that it was not his car. Not many fixed speed cameras would survive over here as that is what a 357 magnum is for.
