Invert the colours of your monitor and you'll understand why looks good ... ;)
McLaren had a marketing message early on that said "We'll never say no, we'll only say how much." Obviously they can't compromise safety items or items mandated or controlled by various government entities, but with appearance items if you can dream it they will try to find a way to do it. I have little doubt they were not only willing, but enthusiastic about helping this owner to spec out and deliver this absolutely unique configuration. >8^) ER

a buddy of mine who does a lot of the HVAC for all the mansions in fairfield county *greenwich, new canaan, south norwalk etc.* has said hes seen at least 5 different p1s around greenwich in the last 2 weeks or so... ive got to take a ride down one of these weekends and see what i can find running about
I don't know, I've heard from one owner that it took a good bit of back and forth arguing to get McLaren to build his car how he wanted.
Briefly going back to vmax , I hit 201 mph in the enzo according to ph. The old girl still rocks ! Top results were Koenigsegg CCX = 211mph Porsche 9e GT2 = 210mph McLaren P1 = 209mph RUF CTR3 = 207mph Audi R8 TT = 205mph Aventador = 204mph Ferrari F12 = 202mph Ferrari Enzo = 201mph
on the CGT, on page 3. I started reading this thread from page 1 and found some interesting bits, from 1 year and a half ago. Bill, this could've saved Paul Walker ...!
Just watched Jay Leno's P1 video, very enjoyable and surprised to see that he mentioned the Nurburgring time. He asked Mike Flewitt that if someone that purchased every McLaren built wanted to know the P1's Nurburgring time and swore an oath that he would never repeat it to anyone, would it be possible to disclose the time to which Mike immediately answered "No!" and then Jay appears to say "I'm never gonna find out". Is it just me or does anyone else find this very strange? Jay Leno is without a doubt one of McLarens most important customers. He is a great ambassador for the brand, probably the best known McLaren owner/enthusiast there is. Despite this, McLaren do not feel that he's worthy of knowing the Nurburgring time - but Erik is? I can understand that Erik is not an average Mclaren fan, he has basically dedicated his life to the brand. Still, he hasn't paid millions of dollars for cars over the years like Jay has. And Mark Antar - whoever the hell he is - claims that he knows the lap time too. Very, very odd.
They probably told him off camera. Regardless, McLaren's 'Ring adventure is a total farce. I don't care about the lap time, it's quick enough. But their PR department must be run by a bunch of mentally retarded apes.
It is strange indeed. I am just as much of a McLaren fan as Erik is. We don't have to be owners to have the "privilege" of having a lap time. I wouldn't tell anyone that I don't trust the lap time and the only person that I do trust from outside the factory is Erik. And I'm glad that he and a few McLaren individuals feel the same about me.
To be brutally honest, I don't believe you know the lap time. Erik, yes. You? no. Being a fanatic fanboy and troll is not the same as being an individual well known for his knowledge, even though he might be a bit too biased at times. I doubt the people at Woking hold you very highly, if they are even aware of you at all.
What they tell Leno on camera, and what they tell him when the record button isn't pressed, is very different.
Not sure what Erik considers himself but I'd guess historian/expert or something similar? I don't think you're quite on his level yet Mark. What exactly are you to McLaren? Who (without giving too much away) deemed you worthy of knowing the lap time (ie. was it a McLaren official or did you hear it through the grapevine)? Do you have a relationship with McLaren like Erik does?
