Looking through the cars for sale on e-bay shown on this site, I find that there are about 5 360 spyders for sale for every 1 360 coupe. Anyone willing to give a considered opinion as to why such a big disparity?
All I can think of, coupes sell fast due to price. Every spider is 80K+ whereas you can get into a coupe for low 60's.
for most people a Ferrari is a toy to be driven only on nice days, so a convertible makes sense. for most people a Ferrari is something to be seen in and a convertible makes sure the neighbors see you. So a convertible makes sense and more convertibles are sold. I have a S2000 for the nice days with the top down and a 360 Coupe because I am getting old (mid-50s) and wanted a quiet comfortable car for the longer trips, my 360 is my first hardtop car in my life, never owned a non-convertible before and I like it.
That's surprising if it really is a representative sample. 360s were available as coupes only for the 1st 2 years. Many were sold to people who were just waiting for a spider to trade it in on. On a relative basis, coupes should be plentiful. Dave
Dave- They sold 360 Modenas all the way through 2004. Only during the very late production that extended into 2005 was only the Spider available. Total production favored the Modena slightly at 8800 vs 7579 Spiders.
Same here, been on those boards since like 08 or something. No surprise though, we all have great taste in cars
I know I may upset some people here but I do not like the look of the spider 360 It ruins the beautiful lines of the car Just my personal opinion
^^^Me too. I can see why people want spiders but my Modena does it for me. Way better looking and sports cars are meant to be coupes.
If more coupes than spiders were produced, it's still odd to have such a large disparity for sale....assuming that 4:1 or 5:1 is truly representative of the cars available for sale. Personally I prefer the coupe. The other interesting thing is that a Ferrari is "supposed" to be true performance car with few creature comforts...and if so, then one would think coupes would be more desirable as they are closer to true sports/race cars. I wonder how Enzo himself felt about spiders...either way Ferraris are sexy!!!
Spiders are more flashy. Coupes are more raw sports car. It already looks like they are more desirable. In this corner of the world spiders are always for sale. There are no Modena's for sale here. They sell fast.
Spiders sell better in the US, so there is probably a larger proportion of Spiders vs Modenas here compared to the rest of the world. No US numbers I have, unfortunately. UK numbers are about equal Modenas and Spiders (1054 M, 991 S)
I don't know about that. F1 cars and past Ferrari racers were open cockpit, not coupes. Take a spider on the track with the top down and the air currents pushing your helmeted head around and you may come to a different conclusion about which is more raw. That doesn't explain why there are so many spiders for sale vs. coupes, however. There may be as Terry notes, a disproportionate number of spiders here in the U.S., and the summer months bring them to market, as they usually sell better during that time. I scrape the adverts off the cars.com website on the 15th of every month. I see a fairly even split between coupes and spiders for sale. PS: Before anyone asks, I'm not doing any analysis with the data - I don't have enough time at the moment. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Dudes...I had a S2K too..NFR. It was the best car. And now I want a 360. You love S2000s, I know. But so did I. That makes us brothers, doesn't it? Smile for me now, brother.
I prefer the coupes as well... but for a spyder, I think it looks pretty good! After my Boxster, I'm done with convertibles. Constantly worrying about the top getting worn, windows split if not glass... S2000... meh. Never got into it. I hear it drives really nice, but never got into the looks. OTOH I've also never been a fan of the NSX.
I am coupe all the way on modern cars. I am a big fan of vintage cars being convertibles though. I never got the s2000 thing either but.... I love an NSX! I still want one of these suckers!
